Portal 2 developers including lead writer Erik Wolpaw, designer/engineer Jeep Barnett, and VP of Marketing Doug Lombardi recently sat down with Fast Company to discuss some of the behind the scenes aspect of creating the hugely popular puzzle title and they let it slip that we can expect some Portal 2 DLC this summer.
The trio went in to great detail behind making the game, and even mention that they originally had a much different idea when it came to designing the game. "What is Portal 2?" said Wolpaw, "We actually went down this path in the very beginning where we thought that maybe Portal as a franchise is less about portals--which sounds crazy in retrospect--and more about introducing a new puzzle mechanic. And the common theme was Aperture Science, this kind of funhouse of science. We actually mocked up a version of Portal 2 that didn't actually have portals. But we quickly discovered through playtesting that people wanted portals in their Portal 2--and GlaDOS, and the whole vibe of the first game."
And when asked about future content, Lombardi said, "We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer. We'll be putting more details out about that in a week or so. We'll support that with more videos or more comics."
And thank goodness for that, as I personally cannot get enough of Portal 2. To check out the rest of the behind the scenes interview you can head over to Fast Company where the guys go in to great depth on recreating GlaDOS, how they introduce Wheatly and Cave Johnson, and the other lessons that they took in to mind from Portal while putting Portal 2 together.

I've beaten the game thrice. I love it. Third best game series ever, after Grand Theft Auto and Bioshock. FRACK ZELDA!!!

Great news! Now does that mean we'll see those missing levels from some of the Portal 2 commercials? Take a look at the ones about the gels. What ever happened to that level with the dozen or so mashers in single player? I was missing that in the single player mode and hope that's not something that was dropped cause it looked like fun!

It'll most likely be new test chambers for coop and/or single player. Not that that is a bad thing, but I don't know what more 'story' there could be without a full fledged sequel.
JustTheBeginning
Hopefully more coop

Hopefully the dlc they announce for Portal 2 will add more to the story, maybe even hint towards an impending crossover between portal and whatever is to come in Half-Life 2 episode 3; kinda hoping for too much from Valve but I can hope!
