Electronic Arts has announced that the new cover athlete of Madden NFL 12 will be none other than Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis. For the first time ever, fans were able to vote for the cover athlete and it all came down to Hillis against notorious Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
In the end, Hillis took 66% of the fan votes and in a statement to ESPN, said he wasn't worried about the famed "Madden Curse" saying, "For people to believe in this so-called curse, I can't wait to prove people wrong. From what I believe and where I am in my spiritual life, it would be good to prove them wrong in that sense."
In the 2010 NFL season, Hillis was the first running back on the Browns to run over 1,000 yards in a season since 2008, finishing up with 1,177 yds and 11 touchdowns. Hillis beat out a number of other athletes including Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware, Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis, and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Madden NFL 12 is coming out for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Playstation 2 on August 30.

I had Hillis on my fantasy team last year and he was a top performer week in and week out. I could always count on him to put points on the board. Good player, good pick IMHO.

When you check the box score his name comes up as P.Hillis. It's close enough to Phillis to get a consistent laugh from me.

A good portion of the people who voted did so AGAINST their team, as they didn't want the curse to hit their favorite player/team. So who better to throw the curse at than my Browns, hey, we kinda suck already. But then again, we might get the double negative effect on the curse and end up in the Super Bowl. Now that would be some funny azz shizzle.

i like peyton hillis but how can their be a madden 2012 without a confirmed 2012 season!
madden cover should always be either LEAGUE MVP or SUPER BOWL MVP or
ANY PLAYER who has had a RECORD BREAKING SEASON those should be the only candidates sorry thats my opinion!
peyton hillis is nasty a mike alstot who can score but still anyway you cut it, what has he done to deserve this honor of cover he is a 2 year wonder.
AARON RODGERS was the best choice he won the super bowl was super bowl MVP and destroyed the stigma of favre in green bay and cemented his own legacy.
P.S. i am no packers fan GO EAGLES please trade vick! nothing personal i am just not a fan of lefty quarter backs , but he rebounded great and had a super season and proved he is a elite football quarter back.

Im a Steelers fan And Im still just fine with Hillis being on the cover and I did vote for him. As some one said Its nice to see NFL fans have some integrity. If Vick Had bee on the cover it would have been the first year I wouldnt buy it and Ive been playing it since its second year. Congrats to Hillis and the Browns fans who needed something to cheer about.
