EA Sports

EA Sports is planning to implement a new subscription service that will help push digital distribution. The service is designed to give members exclusive access to benefits for Madden NFL, FIFA, NHL, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, SSX: Deadly Descents, and NCAA Football. The benefits include:

  • Discounts on all downloadable content for participating EA Sports titles
  • Full downloadable versions of participating titles before they come out in stores
  • Exclusive membership recognition badge that appears on both your online and in-game profile
  • Ability to transfer paid content from current pariticpating titles to future versions
  • Free and exclusive opportunities to extend your EA Sports experience to the PC and Web
  • Free and exclusive EA Sports downloadable content for participating console-based titles

The membership will be available to purchase from retailers and EA's website for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles but no price point has been set yet.

This type of service has its up and downs. First off, it's probably going to be a subscription service within another subscription service like Xbox Live or PSN so you're going to have to pay for both to get all of the benefits. There are a number of very positive sides to the EA Sports subscription service though, like DLC transfers.

As it stands now, to purchase all of the DLC for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 it will cost $110, with the subscription service, once Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 comes out you could theorhetically transfer all of the DLC to the new game without having to re-buy the content.

So far the imagines showing off the discounts aren't set in stone, but if they're to be believed then EA will be offering up to 30% discounts for their content for subscribers.

What do you think of the new EA Sports Subscription service? Would you be willing to shell out anywhere from $14.99 to $34.99 for these benefits, or are they not worth it to you?

PSN is not a subscription service, but you call it one in the article. Wondering if you could fix that.

The question on my mind is...will it be a monthly fee, yearly fee or a one time fee?

If it's a one time fee, then it's probably worth it depending on the price. $15 is reasonable, but not over that.
