Why you mad, Rift fans? Stuff happens. You'll live. I remember way back in the day when BC came out for WoW. . .god what a disaster. But yeah, good show. As always. Glad I'm caught up, missed out on it this weekend cause I was rafting in Banos, Ecuador. Mad more? Top it off there were 2 Canadian chicks and 3 Brit chicks with me. ^-^ Good times! See ya'll next week!

Lobster battle? You mean the Horde players who were having their mounts have sex with each other since it's under my assumption that all Horde players are flaming homosexuals?

@Fallestar And i digress, your logic is off. First it take gasoline and coal to generate the electricity for playing online. Just because you may have to travel to a location does not mean that you have to spend the gasoline to get there. Rpg pakagin is a weak argument as there is usually no pakaging over the book you buy (I have Vampire, Rifts, D&D, Parnoia, Warewolf, Mage, the list goes on. Also cars are much more gasoline efficient than industrial electric generators and produce face less toxic emmisions these days than electric coal generators.

I understand G4 is trying to encourage conservation by recommending turning off our computers and playing table-top RPGs for one night or so a week instead of being in front of our computers playing WoW, RIFT, or Aion.
I have to argue though that table-top RPGs are far worse for the environment than spending a night playing an MMO from your apartment. First of all, there is the gasoline spent driving to and from the destination for all the participants who are driving to the location. Then there's the large amounts of paper and plastic involved with the game itself as well as the packaging, none of which in most cases will ever be recycled.
In some cases table-top RPGs are better, like if it's being done in a dorm room where all the players just walk to the location of the game rather than drive, but I doubt that would be the norm. In most cases the car exhaust and fuel consumption of getting to the destination would greatly exceed the resources used to play an MMO for an evening. Also, I'd like to add that I'm not hating on table-top RPGs, but this is the truth.

Great to see The MMO Report show some love to the "analog" gamers! Casey if you like FFG's BSG Boardgame you should look into "Arkham Horror" or "Mansions Of Madness". It's buttery Lovecraftian goodness right at your table! :)

I like to point out I am on Briarcliff on Rift. We have queues from time to time still. (ON NON WORLD EVENT NIGHTS). Of course, nowadays the queues are normally under 5 minutes!

Here is how that RIFT world event panned out from my point of view. There was a massive update and the Rift shards started Phase 1. It was a global quest and it tells you that there will be a total of 3 phases. I believe the first stage lasted 3 to 4 weeks. Death nvasions, special questds, new items to buy, and THAT was incredible and fun. Phase 2 was delayed a week... for testing. FAIR. More testing, more fun... what is 1 week. The next week happens and we get a global message that basically tells us that the server will go down for 15 minutes as they load up Phase 2. I went to get a cup for ice tea. 7 minutes later, people are screaming on ventrilo that the server is up and there is a queue. WTF. We were told 15 minutes, and it came up somewhere about 5. I tried to log in 8 minutes after the server went down and waited 1 hour 45 minutes. Some of my guild made it in. Phase 2 ended withim 45 minutes. Phase 3 was allot of talk and ended before I could login. Most of my guild missed the even so we PvP all the defiant we could find and entered the River of Souls afterwards.
From what I can gather, Phase 2 was each server had a special raid boss that had to be killed. However, each raid boss was based on the average supposed fighting level of the area. You get bonus credit if you "tag" the boss first and more for a credit if your group or raid did the most damage. The loot ranged from junk to money to rare rideable horse. The problem was that a level 10 raid boss can be tanked my a mage and killed by the same mafge faster than most people can teleport from 1 zone ot another. Level 20 raid bosses offered a slight challenge. the level 50 raid bosses took the longest, and since most people are already 50.... they all seemed to die at the same time... since people were going to all the zones for their chance at loot and rewards and fame!
Phase 3m from what I can gather, was 10 to 30 minute speach and it opened the new 20 man raid dungeon. Speach? Speach? SPEEAACCCHHHHHH?? WTF
You got a title and an achievement if you were in the area of the raid and kept yourself alive. As long as you were alive at the last moment, and in the area you got that achievement and title. My guild was mashing buttons and killing defiants to deny them their "twitter" achievement. LOL (remember Rift lets you tweet your achievements. I do it for funs and giggles. So if something really bizzare happens and it gets tweeted and someone says... PICS or IT AINT TRUE... I can show them twitter and it saves a pic and the achievement as well on the twitter account automatically.

I've wanted to play Call of Cthulu for like forever, but my crappy friends only want to play some crappy game one of them created. No, seriously, the game is not bad but come on, how many years can we play the same game without me killing one of them? Then the press starts saying how evil D&D is, making me kill a friend. Just play Call of Cthulu with me and this mess can all be avoided...:)

Unfortunately for the wownerds, the report on Rift is not really accurate.
My two servers Endless and Silkweb did not suffer any queues or outages. I didn't notice any servers down when I logged in last saturday either. Phase 2 of the event was scheduled for April 16th. This was clearly stated in the ingame event window, so people who say "they missed out" apparently don't know how to read a calendar. Be that as it may, Trion did give all characters who were made before the event ended a special "goodie pack" in their mail. The more you contributed to the event, the more goodies you got. A nice 20 slot bag was included in one of my packs as an example.
crocodilius
true story, phase 1 of that event lasted like 2 weeks and within an hour phases 2 and 3 were over and alot of us had no idea >.>
