Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, SOCOM 4, and Conduit 2: with four major titles out this week that span the range of systems, which one should you pick up? There's everything from FPS to puzzle-solving platforming to fighting games represented here, so it might be a hard decision. If you want to experience everything spoiler-free, you're going to want to pick up Portal 2 as soon as possible, or else you're likely to have the experience ruined for you.
But, maybe that's not your cup of tea, and dishing out lethal Fatalities is more your style. Or commanding a squad of SEALs. Or perhaps you want to do your best to stop an alien invasion. What's right for you? Let our handy guides help you make the decision now so you can enjoy your gaming later.
The highly anticipated sequel to 2007's Game of the Year, Portal 2 is a hilariously mind-bending adventure that challenges you to use wits over weaponry in a funhouse of diabolical science. Using a highly experimental portal device, you’ll once again face off against a lethally inventive, power-mad A.I. named GLaDOS. And this time you won’t be alone. Meet an expanded cast of characters as you think your way through dangerous, never-before-seen areas of Aperture Laboratories. Break the laws of spatial physics in ways you never thought possible, with a wider variety of portal puzzles and an expansive story that spans a single player and co-operative game mode.
- REVIEW: Portal 2
The newest chapter of the iconic fight franchise marks a triumphant return to the series’ mature presentation and a reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic. Driven by an all new graphics engine, the fan favourite Fatality is back and presented in more gory detail than ever before. In addition, Mortal Kombat introduces a number of new game-play features including tag team and the deepest story mode of any fighting game. Players can choose from an extensive line up of the game’s iconic warriors and challenge their friends in traditional 1 vs. 1 matches, or take on several new game modes.
- REVIEW: Mortal Kombat
Building on the success of the multimillion-selling franchise, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs delivers the ultimate next-generation combat experience blending rich cinematics, PlayStation Move integration, a robust single-player campaign and industry leading competitive multiplayer exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Experience what it’s like to be an Ops Commander as you lead a 5-person squad in a special mission to discover what’s behind the annihilation of NATO Special Forces in Southeast Asia. Continuing to raise the bar for tactical gaming, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs introduces new ways for players to engage in combat. For the first time in franchise history, players will be able to utilize both the PlayStation Move and DUALSHOCK controllers to enable precise, tactical control over their A.I. teammates.
- REVIEW: SOCOM 4: U.S. NAVY SEALs
Building upon the success of the original, Conduit 2 takes players to the far reaches of the world to stop an alien invasion which can be fought in single-player, online multiplayer battles, and all-new off and online co-op modes. Armed with advanced and powerful weapons, players can expect massive action in large, multi-tiered levels featuring dynamic environments, cinematic battles, giant adversaries, and deep customization features.

I'm definitely going to get Portal 2 then Mortal Kombat and mostly likely SOCOM4 later.
Portal 2 is tops because it's the most unique of the three. As much as I like fighting games and third person shooters, I personally need more variety in my collection and Portal 2 seems to deliver in spades.
dz99ls
laughable that G4 felt the need to put Conduit 2 up there with rest...

Haveing a BLAST with MK. Good old brutal beat down from the 90's
Avalanche33
MK should be a 90 or 95 that game is amazing and is best fighting game to date.

I got Portal 2. Surprising it is pretty fun and makes you feel proud to beat some of these puzzles. Especially on Co-Op!
If I had a PS3 I would have also (and maybe in stead) gotten Socom 4. Socom 2 gave me hours of fun kick butt times with my old DSM Clan.
I'm not a big fan of MK but I think that's because when the 3D garbage came out it killed it for me. I prolly would like this MK better since it is only 2D... Maybe I check it out sometime.
Do people still play the Wii?
shmaron
I think out of these choices I would buy Socom 4 and Conduit 2.
Socom, because I have always loved those games, the third person perspective is a nice change from fps, and I am looking forward to using the sharpshooter.
Conduit 2, because of splitscreen co-op and I need to add to my collection of 5 Wii games.
BONERJAM
Portal 2. I was disapoointed at first because of the length but after playing co-op with a buddy I'm more than pleased I bought it.
