Happy Portal Day everyone! Yes, one of the most anticipated titles of the year is finally on store shelves and according to the reviews it does not disappoint. Adam is loving every minute of Portal 2, and is not only impressed by its writing and comedy but also by its genius construction of puzzles. So if you could stop testing just for a moment and put down the controller, The Sess has something to say about everyone's favorite first-person puzzle game, Portal 2.

Not allowing experimentation sounds like school

I hope this calls attention to the great dividends that time spent on writing and voice talent can pay. This game made me laugh more than most movies, TV shows, and books. And what's more, they're laughs that never felt cheap. They always felt creative and so completely deserved, which I think is why it sometimes reminded me of the writing of Douglas Adams.
Everyone expects great gameplay and design from Valve. That's a given. But this level of writing is what sets them apart even further from the rest of the industry. Telling an engaging, exciting, and even emotionally affective story without interaction with a single human is something is just begging to fail. As a concept, it almost should work. The fact that Valve managed to not only pull it off, but do a phenomenal job, is a testament to their borderline ridiculous skill at the craft.

I still can't understand what anybody likes about portal. Just seems very over rated.

Is Wheatley voiced by the British guy in Assassins Creed? Kinda sound alike to me.

...well...one thing this has done for me...made me interested in the Portal series...it looks...cool, and normally I HATE puzzle games, but after seeing this, maybe it's just the previous puzzle games I've encountered are just made in a way that doesn't appeal to me...in otherwords, they make me feel stupid. lol

Another great soapbox. It's funny how up until 1:10 in the video i had never even thought of portal as a puzzle game!
Honestly, i hate puzzle games but portal is so engaging. In the original i spent almost 10 minutes walking back and forth through the very first portal in the game. At the time i couldn't believe it. I spent even more time making portals that when I jump into into them I would just keep falling. No-one could comprehend the amount of fun i had putting objects (or myself) through a never ending portal. I agree, i think of puzzles as structured games with no freedom and I love the way that portal gives you the ability to experiment and screw around.
A puzzle game that makes me forget that I'm playing a puzzle game?
P.S. I may only be young but i really appreciate your opinion on video games!

That's the best Limbo summation I've heard. It applies very well to how I feel about that game.

Did they just show Glados kill Wheatly? If they just spoiled part of Portal 2 for me, I'm going to sue g4.

There is one thing that impressed me the most about Portal 2. My friends 7 year old son told him to buy it and was actually started playing it on his own. At first he was a little disappointed there were no "guns" or "monsters", but once he got used to understand the portal mechanic (with a little help from us), he was actually having fun solving some puzzles on his own. Awesome job Valve.

excellent soapbox i agree completly...when a puzzle is done right like everything in the first portal acomplishing everything feels sooo good...but to me when it came to the assassins creed series puzzles i felt dumb and had to google more than once... not only that but u were so into the zone before you started the puzzle by the time you got out you lost ur umph and all for a tiny clip of uhhh id like to say nothing...no satisfaction i hope thier gone or at least implemented better for 3.
Aerindel_Prime
Is there a way to download the first portal for xbox or do I have to buy the orange box?

I love puzzles and making people feel stupid and belittled

The problem of getting stuck in a game is not limited to puzzles. There are many games where objectives are unclear and grind the game to a halt. I was recently playing Lego Star Wars 3 with a friend, and quite a few times we were just not sure what the game wanted us to do. There's a fine line between holding someones hand and leaving them in the dark, and many games still struggle with that.
