Mortal Kombat was released today, and while that's great news for MK fans, it also confirms bad news for Xbox 360 gamers. Despite months of speculating, Mortal Kombat will not have an Xbox 360 exclusive character to counter Kratos, the PS3 exclusive. I can rest assured knowing the devs who worked on the game were on my side though, they wanted to include an Xbox 360 character too.

Eurogamer spoke with Ed Boon about why the decision was made to not include an Xbox 360 exclusive character. "Unfortunately, the circumstances didn't allow us to make a 360 exclusive," he told them. "I'm not allowed to talk too much about it, but I can tell you we certainly wanted to do an exclusive for 360, but that's all I can say. It was not a decision we made where we said, oh, let's not do one for the 360."
If it wasn't up to them, then who was it up to? Who decided the PS3 version should have a feature the Xbox 360 lacked? Xbox gamers: are you bummed? PS3 gamers: are you glad?
Mortal Kombat is out now for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

They should have used Ryu Hayabusa

i passed the arcade gamemode with Kratos and to be honest, i can't play well with him. His attacks seem sluggish! I wish he'd move faster!

gordon freeman should be the xbox exclusive
MercilessInk
Well that sucks..

I went to Walmart last night for Mortal Kombat tournament with xbox 360 console. Like 3 or 4 people showing up and they decided to cancel it because not enough people to play the tournament.
I'm xbox 360 gamer. They will not get more money from xbox 360 gamers. they prefer ps3.

Too Human- Dead Franchise/third party meaning if Microsoft wanted to add any characters from too human they have to go through Silicon Knights first.
Ninja Blade-Microsoft is only the distributer of the game soo they would need to goto the developer who owns the rights for them to one of their characters in MK.
Killer instinct gold- lol isn't that a game from the 90s that no one remembers?
Halo- Ya this would be one of the only games that mk could incorporate characters from... if the right price is paid,
Gears of War- third party meaning they have to go through epic first.
heh i guess besides halo Microsoft really doesnt have any worth while characters that mk could of used.

Doesn't matter, nobody with a brain buys 360 games. Might as well save the money and just put one exclusive character in there. Besides it's not like the 360 has any good games to borrow characters from. You got shooters and shooters, very lame.
For the record I'm probably not buying it anyway, not a fighter fan. Too many combos to memorize to have any fun with it.

It's a shame that Dante's Inferno wasn't 360 exclusive, he would have been great for it

@BONERJAM, carlos0981, & PRAX150:
SRSLY; its like you guys aren't thinking hard enough.
Baldur [Too Human]
Ken Ogawa [Ninja Blade]
Anyone [Killer Instinct Gold]
The Arbiter [Fal Chava' from Halo Legends, Ripa Mora'mee from Halo Wars or Thel Vada' from Halo 2 & 3]
Skorge [Gears of War 2]

Diehard xbox fans hates Kratos anyway. I don't see this affecting the sales of either.

I still say the exclusive character should have been Voodoo Vince or Blinx.

My opinion, Alan Wake, Master Chief, and Marcus Phoenix all would have been awesome LOL.
I have a PS3 and a 360 and I'm kinda happy PS3 finally gets a break with something for just them. With all the maps and extra content Microsoft always gets its only fair. Plus the fanboys need some ammo to think the PS3 is for some reason better then the 360. I actually bought the 360 version because more of my friends are on xbox live. Cant wait to play this and portal 2......... but the Gears beta is taking over my life.
Now that I think about it every single Locust would be awesome in MK. BOOOOOM!

I think when they went to ask Epic Games or Microsoft for a character, the companies concluded that it would not be beneficiary for them to have a character in MK. I know its all fun and games but remember guys, this is business & money talks, thats my guess.

just a guess, but it's probably due to Xbox not needing it and warner bros noty wanting to spend more money on it. just going by the facts, multiplatform games almost always end up having the xbox version outsell the PS3 version, the publishers know this, that's why it makes sense for them to include additional content on the PS3 version to get more sales, they know that even with some additional content for it that those who only have 1 system will buy it for their system anyways but those who have two consoles will go for the extras and pick up the PS3 version, sort of leveling it out a bit...

"Unfortunately, the circumstances didn't allow us to make a 360 exclusive,"
Ya, those circumstances being that the 360 doesn't really have any characters that fit into the Mortal Kombat universe. Who are they going to put in there? Allan Wake? Master Chief? Marcus Fenix? It's really not a matter of keeping things away from one console or another but just simple logic. It would be as if they made a Wii version of the game and had Mario or Donkey Kong in it. It wouldn't make much sense. That's what you get when you have a system with a heavy lean towards shooters, versus a more balanced one like the PS3 between shooters, hack & slack, action/adventure, etc.
And I find it funny that the post seems to imply that something is being "kept away" from 360 players. What did you expect? For Sony to hand over their intellectual property and let the 360 version have Kratos? Think for a second, Santa Monica Studios is a branch of Sony (not even a subsidiary), whereas Bungie is now a private company, and Epic games and Remedy Studios are private companies that are pretty much in direct competition with Warner. Why would these companies lend their property to another studio so that company could make a profit? It's not rocket science.

Like BONERJAM said, the 360 doesn't really have a character that would fit in the MK universe, the guys from Gears are close, but still, they would look out of place on a MK game. Kratos on the other hand, perfect fit, he is a psycho murderer who likes to rip his victims in half for health orbs, like I said perfect fit for the MK universe.
BONERJAM
I can't think of a single MS character that would work. Marcus Fenix is close but really doesn't fit but Kratos was practically made to be a MK character. I'm glad they didn't shoehorn another character in just to even things out.

I love my 360 and I love my PS3 I have to say that I'm really glad about this decision that only one version will have an extra character. It now makes my decision INCREDIBLY easy on which version I will buy. I hate when I have to choose what feature I would prefer when I buy a game now. Would I rather have a costume for Sub Zero or Scorpion. Would you like to play on this map for free or this one. It's hard enough now to decide what games to buy in this economy, but NOW we must decide what we want with our games as well, like ordering a side of fries or onion rings, you must pick one, but if you want both well that'll cost extra.
We need to go back to when if you pre-ordered something you got it, no matter where you ordered it from, or what version it was; PS3, 360, and even the Wii. I miss being able to buy a game and feel like I wasn't cheated because they got something that I didn't because i bought the wrong version.

Microsoft. Apparently they don't need 'exclusive' characters.
