Mortal Kombat was released today, and while that's great news for MK fans, it also confirms bad news for Xbox 360 gamers. Despite months of speculating, Mortal Kombat will not have an Xbox 360 exclusive character to counter Kratos, the PS3 exclusive. I can rest assured knowing the devs who worked on the game were on my side though, they wanted to include an Xbox 360 character too.

Eurogamer spoke with Ed Boon about why the decision was made to not include an Xbox 360 exclusive character. "Unfortunately, the circumstances didn't allow us to make a 360 exclusive," he told them. "I'm not allowed to talk too much about it, but I can tell you we certainly wanted to do an exclusive for 360, but that's all I can say. It was not a decision we made where we said, oh, let's not do one for the 360."
If it wasn't up to them, then who was it up to? Who decided the PS3 version should have a feature the Xbox 360 lacked? Xbox gamers: are you bummed? PS3 gamers: are you glad?
Mortal Kombat is out now for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

@illbill77 Yea somethin outta dead or alive would be off the chain but i was thinkin Baldur from Too Human. HE PWNS. he could also use a few potential powers like 1. Slide(from the game) 2. Turret/Mine Spider(from the game) 3. Battle Cry - damage increase/resistance 4. Fenrir(from the game) 5. Using His Multiple Weapon choices like Shao Khan and Stryker 6. Bringing back Arial Kombat from Mortal Kombat Armageddon. He would be pretty kewl

unless they make all the dlc that's coming to console free (xbox free only) then their just being selfish idiots.cowards always respond with I cant tell you the details cos inside their saying we have no excuse. make our (xbox 360) dlc free then you will be forgiven

man, this is not f'ing fair. definitely going to boycott this game. sucks for ps3, unlike us, they cant boycott cod for having dlc maps on xbox first.

Why not just make the character a DLC? The game has only been out a few weeks, better late than never right? I want to see one of my beloved characters get nutty and represent in the Mortal Kombat world.

From a marketing/sales standpoint, I understand why exclusive DLC/characters/content is done...but as a gamer, I think it sucks and does nothing but weaken a title and has left bad tastes in my mouth from console makers to dev/pub houses.

Well i just have to say i like both ps3 and 360, leaned more to ps3. However i think xbox 360 fans get more than enough, like more important things, early map packs for black ops.
i dont even use cratos he is to slow for my fighting style.
As far as a character for xbox Gears of War would fine he's like a steroid version of striker i guess.

Pretty sure the only reason is the same reason PS3 got a demo and 360 didn't. Sony paid for it. Thats how Xbox360 gets all the Call of Duty DLC before PS3 does, because Microsoft pays Activision to get it ahead of the competition. So the reason PS3 gets a demo, AND an exclusive character, is because of Sony's relationship with the Mortal Kombat publisher. And the reason Boon can't tell us that is because then allll of the Xbox guys would look at Sony and get angry haha. So instead, Boon takes the spear to the side (pun intended:) 'Im an Xbox gamer, and bought it for the 360. Not too heartbroken over the lack of exclusive character, because the roster is already badass. But i would love for them to give us some sweet DLC soon:]

I still got my MK for the 360 because the people I play with got it on the 360... do I wish that we had a n exclusive character? Hell Yes... should Boon work something out where 360 owners can get a free DLC exclusive character, YES. will we get that... probably not.

the only characters that could have potentially worked are Emile from Noble team of Halo Reach, Marcus Fenix from Gears only if they would make him much faster, or The Arbiter. Honestly any character from Warner Bros. impressive library could have worked such as the Green Lantern, Batman, the Joker, Flash, or heck I'd be happy with Robin

The game is amazing with or without an exclusive character. Stop fantasizing and go pick up MK9....or...enjoy your early map packs that no one seems to be boycotting for the sake of PS3/PC gamers...
Wanna know why there's no 360 exclusive character? It's not because Ed Boon hates 360 gamers. It's because MS didn't invest in it's 1st party studios and basically green lit every FPS they could. 360 gamers will get an exclusive fighter in a game when there's an exclusive character available. Look at the 360's lineup for this year. No one seems to be upset with the fact that all there is is a bunch of Kinect titles, Gears, Forza 4, and indie games. Sure you have the same awesome multiplats as the PS3 but 360 gamers have no exclusives coming up, which means you probably won't have any exclusive cameos in future fighting games. Get mad at that and stop supporting a company that's forgot about it's core audience. Or keep playing your multiplatform shooters with your "friends"...Those of us that play games for games and not friends will pray for you.
What you should be upset about is the fact that you got all got burned with no demo. That's something to get upset over. Netherrealm screwed up with that.

Not even counting this game, but for any game that has done this or will do this, I think it is down right foolish to give one console more extras over another console. I get it if it was strictly a series on THAT system (ex. God of War for PS2 & Gears of War for Xbox 360). But to put out a multi-platform game and give one system more extras over another and leaving it in the dust, just makes me feel like that developing team/company doesn't care about the system I play on. It feels like it's more based on money when they simply give a map pack or a character or special features to one system and not to another.
I am an Xbox 360 player and I have to be honest: this sort of was the reason why I did not pick up Mortal Kombat. I've been a big Mortal Kombat fan since the 1st one and I liked the look of this one, but the lack of giving us additional character at all made me feel like they didn't care. I guess now after reading this news post about them actually wanting to make an exclusive it does make me feel better, but it doesn't change the fact of what is lacking.
And before anyone complains and wants to say stuff about me being selfious, just hear me out. If there is ANY game that is multi-platform and gives even the Xbox 360 community a map pack/character/extra/etc. over the PS3 community, I find it to be a terrible and foolish thing even when I am getting the benefits. If they hypothetically made an Xbox 360 exclusive character and didn't make one for the PS3, I would still be here complaining about why it's not fair. I don't see there should be a difference in multi-platform games from one system to another other than the obvious controller layout, graphics, and online support.
Granted, whatever the reason is for them not making it, I guess I can sort of understand. But it still stands that there is no exclusive character for Mortal Kombat fans in the Xbox area.

I actually got the PS3 version for two reasons. I liked the D-Pad on the PS3 controller over the XBOX 360 analog stick as it applies to MK. and PS3 had Kratos. If the XBOX had had a special character, I may have gone with the XBOX version instead...

This sounds like it's completely Microsoft's fault for not getting the rights of a good character cleared to be used in this game. Another 360 FAIL. Maybe they should have dusted off Stubbs the Zombie and tossed him in the ring.
