In a recent interview with Atomic Gamer, Diablo 3 Lead Content Designer Kevin Martens mentioned that Blizzard is "seriously considering" releasing Diablo 3 on consoles. The Diablo series features some of the greatest action RPGs of all time and has quite a large PC fanbase. With the success of other top down action RPGs like Torchlight coming out on console, it's no surprise that Blizzard themselves are want to test the water in the console industry. The studio has constantly listed job openings for Diablo 3 console developers so it's not exactly a surprise that they're finally admitting seriously looking into it.
Martens said, "Everybody had a PC, even if they just use it for nothing but e-mail and web surfing. Almost everyone has one, so we do have a pretty giant install base. That said, gaming systems like Xbox and PS3 and so on… Diablo is one of the more natural hits for a Blizzard title to go on those, so I think that’s why we are looking at it pretty seriously."
Now I've voiced my opinion on this before and have since changed my mind. I used to think that because of console limitations that Diablo 3 for the PC would have to take a huge hit to be viable on consoles, which, as a primarily PC gamer was troubling to think about. Now I think that if Blizzard takes a step back and releases the game on console like Valve released Team Fortress 2 on console, then that would be great. TF2 on PC is still updated regularly, has a gigantic fanbase, microtransactions, and lots of support from the community whereas TF2 on console has much less of a following because it doesn't have those things. It's still a great game on both PC and console, and I believe that Diablo 3 can follow suit.
If Blizzard can release Diablo 3 the same way, where PC and console players are completely separate from one another and the PC version gets updates and better support, then I'd say sure, let console people play what's sure to be one of the better games that will come out in the next few years.
The most important thing to take from the Martens interview is where he says, "We’re looking for console people right now to see if that’s feasible, but we just want to make the best Diablo PC game right now." And with that in mind, I'm sure whenever it comes out we'll all be happy.

"diablo for console (mainly PS3) would be great."
You know nothing about porting and you are mistaken. Ever tried playing the sims 3 on PS3. It sucks, but on Xbox 360 its pretty good, not as good as PC, but pretty good. Why do you ask?
Because the Xbox has 512MB of RAM for Game files whereas the PS3 only has 256MB RAM for game files; basically it means all ports must be trimmed in some way, but this is less true for the Xbox. Also, porting the game to Cell processor, also means cuts since contrary to popular believe it is quite slow in an x86 environment from which all PC games are derived. So again, error, Diablo 3 on PS3 would not be awsome. But on Xbox 360, now we're talking. 2 Other reasons for purchasing an Xbox 360 is modding is easier and safer since you only flash the drive not the console OS which allows to backup games and to play backups. As well, the game sizes are much more reasonable on the Xbox 360, and the graphics are a tad sharper; seriously research it.

what does she mean when she says console limitations, because it's not like Diablo 3 has insanely good graphics, and if Torchloight could be put on 360 than this can be put on consoles too, and I would really like it to be.

diablo for console (mainly PS3) would be great. I would still play the PC one mainly but it would be nice to kick back on my couch and just slaughter some demons sometimes without the totally directed game play.
Electric_larry
Great, then make it for PC and PORT IT to the consoles. Also, cross platform MP would be nice. This is the type of game that can work on consoles. They've ported previous PC games to less complex consoles than we have today. PC gamers just don't want the whole thing watered down so it can work for a more "living room friendly cinematic experience." that even mom can enjoy.
KEYSON
i would play it.

Leah, how can you change your mind from "NNNOOOOOO!!!!" to Diablo III to the consoles to this? I hope those rabid console fanboys didn't get to you or did the many G4 staff who are non-PC gamers persuaded you?
I sure hope that not only the PC version of Diablo III can be kept separately from the console version but any sequels after Diablo III. However, if you look at the many PC game series that suffered due to developers deciding to make their games multiplatform, it doesn't look all that good.
flyingchicken
I just want the damn game, now.
Pozest_Star
It would be great if they released it on console, but I don't mind playing on the PC. No matter what, I'm gonna play this the second it comes out... in 2018...
cwbys21
Just to reiterate what Raverenz51 said, they need to seriously consider actually releasing the damn game instead of continually teasing us before bothering with a console port.
hoof_hearted4
as long as they make it completely seperate from th PC version, so the PC version isnt hampered in any way. personally i think it should remain on PC but w/e. all this crap about needing to spend a million dollars on a high end gaming PC is crap. any new PC will play these games. can you play them at super ultra max settings? prolly not. does it make a difference, not really. $1000 max and you can have a great PC/laptop to play games on, if that. most of you have probably spent that on the 7 xboxs u got.

New interview, old news. Also, they won't be able to release Diablo 3 on consoles when they release it on the PC (because they have not spent much time looking into it), so it'll pretty much be a mix of Diablo 1's releases (the console releasing over a year later than the PC), and TF2's support style (PC getting the love with consoles just getting the bare minimum).
Mind you, this is assuming Diablo 3 even makes it to console. This is assuming they either somehow get Battle.Net on PS3 and release it on that only, do what VALVe is doing with Portal 2 and Steam on PS3 and then little support and no Battle.Net on 360 (very unlikely), or just release on both 360 and PS3 with no Battle.Net at all (impossible considering what Blizzard is trying to accomplish with Battle.Net).
Also, I'll have to go through the interview again (and indeed all interviews mentioning this), but I'm pretty sure they never stated releasing Diablo 3 on consoles. They only say "Diablo-related console game". This is different. This is as different as StarCraft: Ghost would of been with the original StarCraft games. If they're going to do a Diablo game for consoles, it most likely will NOT be Diablo 3, but a Different Diablo game.
shaggysasquach
1) they released diablo 1 on the original playstation
2) torchlight a diablo clone was a hit on xbox live at only $15
3)i and everyone i know will pay a full $60 to get this on consoles
4) the activision part of activisionblizzard would not miss the chance to charge all the free pc updates to console gamers as dlc
5) either way this game wont come out for another 2 years knowing blizzard
macross2012
I DOUBT this will ever happen.. Blizzard says they will do something and never do. Honestly this is the 2nd run of Diablo 3 that blizzard is working on.. If it did come out it would be 10 years from now.
cardinalsfan1122
I think DCUO really opened up companies to putting usually PC exclusive games for a mouse and keyboard on consoles. Because DCUO did the transition very well. It would be nice if it was on consoles i hope they are able to do it but not at the expence of quality.
Zathrix
This isn't too surprising. After seeing the success of Torchlight and how well it handled on consoles, it's safe to assume Diablo 3 would work just as well.
fluffzbunny
I think if they made it for console it would be exactly the same as on pc. I don't see how it would downgrade on a console. I do see it not coming to the 360 though because of Microsoft...
Antithos
I hope it does get released at least on the 360... that's the only way I'll actually buy it.
Barbuganot
I'm not a huge pc gamer but I know that Diablo 3 is a huge deal. It would be a shame if Diablo 3 was downsized just so it could port to consoles. I really doubt Blizzard would do that unless the console ports were good though.
