Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Adam is back for this week's Feedback, aren't you glad? After a few miserable weeks of relatively small release titles, this week brings three hugely anticipated games with Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, and SOCOM 4: US Navy SEALs. The panel has been fighting their way through Mortal Kombat and shooting their way through SOCOM 4 quite a lot over the past few weeks (and Morgan is somewhere lost in Portal land) and we would love to hear your questions about these games and other industry news.

The panel this week will include Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, Jake Gaskill, and first time Feedbacker Donell Tucker who specializes in fighting games. Be sure to write your burning questions about these games, or whatever else you want to talk about that's gaming industry related, in the comments section below and tune in to Feedback every Wednesday.

Recently Max Shaefer of Runic Games said in an interview that Blizzard Norths version of Diablo 3 was going to go the MMO route. Alongside this there has been talk amongst Blizzard fans that Diablo 3 is going to cannibalize some of World of WarCraft's players.

Elsewhere, BioWare's Casey Hudson reported that a Mass Effect MMO not only is a possibility, but also makes sense. Since BioWare also has Star Wars: The Old Republic under their belt, I am sure there is also discussion of cannibalism amongst BioWare's community.

While there is no doubt that at least some cannibalism will happen, I would like to know what you folks at G4 think about this interesting predicament, how much cannablism will happen, and what it could mean for the games and their developers.

How art thou Feedback crew I have two questions, 1st what television show would you most like to see a game based off of. Personally I'd like to see one based on The Wire.
2nd what's your opinion on the trend of having things like costumes as paid dlc. For example in GOW1&2 you unlocked up to 4 costumes depending on what level you beat the game on, but in 3 you got only one alt skin and the rest you had to pay for. In SFIV and MVC3 you also had to pay for costumes and only received concept art for beating the game. I think at $60 you can't nickel and dime your costumers it'd bad customer service. Anyways thank you for you time have a great day.

Uncharted 3 multiplayer has been revealed!!! What do you think of Naughty Dog's second go at multiplayer and do you think that the cinematic multiplayer they are trying to bring in from the single player will become more common in other multiplayer games?

id like to make this longer but ill say what matters, today the gears of war 3 beta came out, iv loved this franchise from the start, i still have the emergence day download theme from the first games launch date. too bad im here sending this to you guys instead of playing it now. iv watched feedback for sometime now, even the ones iv had no interest in so iv herd pleanty of questions on this show and some iv felt were great and others that almost had no real question in it. im the kind of person to never take part of anything like this but i couldnt think of anywhere else but here to bring this up, even if you guys think different than me i know im talking to the right people. iv had xbox live since i was 12 and ill be 20 soon, i used to love the stories in games that would take me on an adventure in my own personal space, a game that made me feel like i was there apart of the world. i loved halo but when halo 2 came out i tried the multiplayer and have been hooked on shooters. to get to my point, iv spent so much time in gears 2 that i have almost all achievements, but i was so proud when i became a veteran gear. im not the best, im not anywhere close to being a top rank but i made the goal and i did it, rank 100. today when i played the beta i saw there was an ingame achievement for having the veteran gear achievement and it wouldnt unlock so i logged back into gears 2 and im rank 1, i logged into the gears of war website and searched my game progress, nothing! im not there, not a kill on list, not a mode played, i have no stats at all, 3 years progress and im a rank 1 without a kill. i contacted xbox live but i know theres nothing that can be done. i played some beta again just to cool down and now i have people thinking iv cheated because of my achievements and the said they are going to report me. id just like to point out there was something adam has said about bullying before on either feedback or soapbox that id like to bring up, i dont mess with people, i can yell and taunt but never go out of my way to bring someone down, and now i have all the gear heads trying to cause me probs thanks to this rank 1 crap. iv had the red rings of death, stupid overheating probs, been through a total of 4 xboxs and i still buy new ones and pay for online but iv never been this bothered. My pride in this game is shot, big games are big for reasons but i choose to like this game because thats just what i want. big games like call of duty have their own type of fans, i like it but thats just not me and now the gear community are against me, the people that like the same things as me are now against me and theres nothing that can be done but ignore it till i build my rank. Think, the old school arcade games had the top score with the guys initials, if someone gets a higher score than that brings you back to try and be the top, but what if you check one time and your name is gone, your score still higher but its just not there. mortal combat comes out soon, people love that game for whatever reason and some to be going about saying they are the best and it will probebely have a top scoring list like all games do, would that game be as epic if there is no online at all like the original? if this game is going oldschool like they claim would it be you going against your friends in the neighborhood or would they put in online n say hey guys you can sit at home and vs the best out there to become the highest score. would a game like socom have the fan base they do if it just dropped the team work aspect and just made it like call of duty? these games have their fans for reasons and the one game i had just erased me. I wasnt the best with the highest score but it was still mine. i made it by playing it, they cant just give me a level 100 star and say sorry about that, have fun because i have no stats to back it up. iv been a serious gamer but after this i think its just a wake up call to take a step back. i contacted xbox live and complained but iv complained about wanting a refund for a certain EA title that had faulty dlc achievements and they tolled me if it downloaded than you got what you payed for. to think that iv been playing and paying the yearly fee just to have customer support talk to me like someone who just joined today. im not special but when something like this happens and i start being bullied by who were friends and xbox live acts like the teachers who looks away and does nothing than all i can do is sit here, type this and take it. im sure when gears 3 comes out ill play it and have fun, but i honestly think after something like this i wont play an online game the way i used to. pleanty of people had fun with rock band, i know i did but look what happened with that. i feel like games have been over runned with what people expect and have been ruined by media. not too long ago i remember you guys mentioned that apple is as big because thats what people are being tolled, what do you guys think about this?

WIth the rumors regarding a possible wii2, i have been thinking about the evolution of the consoles over the years. My question is: Why have we not seen the console developers promote quality 3rd party hardware like they have been promoting 3rd party software? I have heard countless people blame the controllers of a system for why they avoid it. Having the best controller's exclusively on your console could be just as much a selling point as having the best game... The third party hardware could even not be limited to controller, but the console itself, third party ps3's that you can fit in your pocket, or that have over a terabyte of storage, or that is an inch thin, or that can play at ultra high resolutions...

This question concerns the Wii 2 annoucement. I know what Nintendo is saying now about the console. But what do you guys want Nintendo to do with Wii 2. HD output is a given, but how will Nintendo keep the casual auidience happy. It's best selling Wii games are either it's name franchies or casual game collections. Do you think Nintendo will cop out and just start releasing HD versions of all it's best sellers? Could they finally bring out some decent online multiplayer? I know one thing for sure, and that's the next Legend of Zelda just got pushed back until at least the launch of Wii 2.

My question for the Feedback crew comes out of my lack of excitement for Battlefield 3. Is the "Modern Warfare" military first person shooter getting old? To explain I have seen the new Battlefield 3 trailer and except for the tank battle screenshots, I'm not excited. Afterall the tank battle may be the "AC-130" mission of Battlefield 3. As for the rest of it, it just reminds me of things I've allready seen in other games. Am I the only one who feels burned out on this genre? Is Battlefield 3 going to be that big of a game? Or just next in line for gamers to play while waiting for the next one to come out?
I mean it was a nice change of pace to after lots of World War 2 shooters. Thnak God for games like Half Life 2 and Portal 2 for showing us what else can be done in an FPS game. I know there are a bunch of good FPS games that aren't military shooters. Bulletstorm, Borderlands, Bioshock, Duke Nukem (soon).
And for the love of G4, someone tell the ad men to stop using this tagline "Best looking game ever" or "Best graphics ever" I am so sick of this. (pure personal complaint)

My question for the panel is; there any signs from the gaming industry creating/releasing non AAA titles or has that form of gaming died for the most part? Games like Stubs the zombie, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gladus and Black. Has the current price point of 60 bucks for new games driven the developers out of the B game level? Can a company still make a game that is not 60 dollars out side of the PC market?

Hi Feedback crew, I have a small question about 3D.

Now that a lot of game are released with the option of playing in 2D or 3D, is the 3D option a viable way to play these games or is it still the pain-in-the-ass gimmick that people use for about 15 minutes and then turn the game back to 2D?

And if it is a viable option for gaming, then have you changed your minds about 3D or has your experience with 3D gaming further cemented your previous opinion of 3D?

my question is about portal 2. last only about 13 hours judging from the comments from developers that includes both co-op and single player. the standard "i use the term loosely" is anywhere from 30 to 40 hours of game play. now i have played portal 1 and found it amazing and engaging. but it was only 3 to 4 hours long. basically my question is portal 2 so amazingly awesome that its worth 50 dollars its seem as though the consumer is taking a hit in play time for quality.
(to note i have the game preloaded for steam)

Just thought of another cool implement for Nintendo screen controller, A game like Call Of Duty, your going to be able to go on a roof top and place a remote control camara device and attach a sniping rifle on it. Your able to snipe someone just by touching the screen.

With all the rumors of Nintendo new cosole, one my favorites is the controller having a touch screen on it. If it's true it's going to make gaming so much easier. Taking the idea of the DS and having the inventory/maps on the bottom screen and put it on the controller screen, makes sense. Another feature maybe video streaming with other team mates in a game, sent out drones or place camars on the battlefield. What implements would guys like to see from Nintendo new contoller.

The portal 2 early release potato sack ordeal seems to be making a lot of fans upset. Some to the point where they threatened to pirate future valve games. Others defend it because of its support for indie developers. What are your thoughts on this?

In my experience games like BioShock and Portal seem to target a higher intellectual caliber of audience than, say games like the Gears of War franchise. I could see how investors might take issue with such games since they essentially limit the potential pool of buyers and are AAA titles that cost millions to make. Do you think games that demand just as strong a mind as a trigger finger stand to make as much of a profit in the future of the industry?
