Activision adressed the future of Guitar Hero in a recent interview with GamingIndustry.biz. Turns out the series isn't as dead as we thought, it's actually just taking a long nap. Activision's Dan Winters said:
“Actually, just to clarify, we’re just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we’re not ending it. We’re releasing products out of the vault — we’ll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won’t go away. We’re just not making a new one for next year, that’s all.”
Activision wants to focus their money and time into games they won't have to take many risks on, like Call of Duty. Last week Tony Hawk said his franchise wasn't canceled either and we could see another skateboarding game as soon as 2012.
Do you want another Guitar Hero in 2012?

i think that there should be a censored version and uncensored version of the next guitar hero.

Kill off the game, all the DLC and then say oh no it's not dead we'll bring it back to see if we can milk more out of you?! I love Guitar Hero but this news pisses me off.

"Activision wants to focus their money and time into games they won't have to take many risks on, like Call of Duty."
So basically they're saying "We don't want to be innovative. We don't want to have to work for our money. We'd rather just keep crapping out Call of Duty games every year that sell just because of the name."
stolan_84
MORE CALL OF DUTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
stolan_84
Oh and don't do a Tony Hawk game, its gay
stolan_84
I hope Rock Band goes away too. Rock Band sucked from the very beginning

I used to be a huge GH fan, but I do beleive that they should just let it die now. It isn't fun anymore. They need to work on pumping out more CoDs. I hope CoD never goes away. They have CoD PERFECT! Only thing that could make it better would be it to release two CoDs a year! RIP GH

Let it die. RIP guitar hero.

The only one I ever thought was close to good was the GH Metallica.I played most of them and nothing gave me anything like Rockband did. To me Rockband's Guitars,Drums and Track lists were always better then what Guitar Hero pumped out. Stay dead Guitar Hero!!

I would want a Tony Hawk game if they would listen to us, and the same goes for Guitar Hero
Make Tony Hawk more arcade again (THPS1 to THAW and THAW is pushing it) and stop trying to make the game all serious. We liked it more when it had more crazy things to do in the game. I don't even know why Shred and Ride were released. I felt those were the worst out of all of them
For Guitar Hero, My favorite controller was the X-Plorer controller and its still alive and well, but the song lists just aren't what they used to be. In my opinion GH3 is the best Guitar Hero around, and you have to find a way to compete with Rock Band. I think Activision lost a lot of people when they try to add drums and a mic to the game, and I don't people caught on with the add-ons. Don't make a polished up version and add a few more songs and call it a new game. When you keep trying to dish out new titles every year, you make people discouraged to buy, because they have to keep dishing out $60 for a new game that they may not even like. You're gonna lose your loyal customers if you guys keep doing that.

Come on guys you know Guitar Hero can still make plenty of artist based games sure GH: Aerosmith was bad GH: Van Halen was decent and everyone knows that GH: Metallica was the best artist exclusive minus the fact Ride The Lightning wasn't in there or the Four Horsemen. My point is they could easily pop out more artist exclusives like GH: Motley Crue or maybe even a GH: A7X, People will go and say Rock Band is better but the sad truth is Rock Band would have been nothing without the help of MTV studios which was the source of all of the music for the game.

Activision should keep telling themselves that. Denying the fact really eases the pain.

Some companies just don't know when to quit, they probably did more for the music genre by killing GH than by just "taking a long nap." I still stand that I will not buy any more GH games. I'm sticking with Rock Band.

No. Stay dead.
All we need is Rock Band.
macross2012
thought this was dead and burried.. No one cares anymore.. this era of gaming over long dead

I was kinda hoping Guitar Hero was gone. It went downhill very fast and it never climbed back up in my books.
Flying_Potato_Man
What about DJ Hero?
TD_ThA_MoNsTa
@RDogg11 Unfortunately, yes. Sad thing is that actually looked like a decent game.
Truly, I stopped caring about Guitar Hero once I picked up RockBand. At least it's nice to hear that Actrivision's starting to shift creative focus on one game franchise. Now if only they could do that with Call Of Duty. Maybe Battlefield 3 will be that cold smack in the face they need.

Thats Cool But what about truecrime is that still dead?
