Ubisoft recently held an Assassin's Creed art exhibit in Germany where Assassin's Creed 3's art director, Mohamed Gambouz, was in attendance. The folks over at HookedGamers had the chance to ask him a few questions and of course they asked about Assassin's Creed 3. "What can you say about Assassin's Creed 3? Which setting are you thinking about now, when you think about AC3," they asked. His response was a bit surprising and a bit vague.
"Well, I personally would do something completely new. Maybe something in an Asian or South American setting, at least nothing that we have already made. But in the end it's not my decision. But you can be sure that we read the reactions of our customers in forums, blogs and Facebook and Twitter very closely and also seriously talk through the suggestions from our players from time to time. In the next few months you will truly experience more details."
This of course is just what he would like to see in the game. While Assassin's Creed 3 hasn't had an official reveal yet, we have no doubts that is coming. Last we heard, Ubisoft was planning on releasing the next Assassin's Creed game before March 31, 2012. I find it unlikely they haven't decided on a location yet and aren't well into production. Then again maybe he's just not letting information slip until Ubisoft is ready to announce something official. He is the art director after all, his opinion on the series matters.
Do you want Assassin's Creed 3 to be set in Asia or South America?

My vote is still full-on for Russia, probably around the October Revolution era.
Other than that though, America during the Industrial Revolution would be plain awesome, in my opinion.
anatidaephobia
it should be in revolutionary france :[

Desmond being an ninja assassin would fit perfectly. Think of how long ago that would've taken place, all the Asian characteristics have probably been bred out of him in the present day so it could work. plus i don't exactly know of how you would put assassins in south america, but i could be wrong.

simple answer. Assassins = Ninjas =Asia
rebelfire
No, no, no. bring it to America, preferably around the time of the Revolution. Use the Freemason" angle to tie in with the Templars.

neither feudal Japan or WWI/WWII but probaly for me i would most likely want it to be in fuedal Japan its a good add-on to the story Because Ninjas are Very simalar to assassins i mean i could go on forever talking about this topic

South America would be awesome. Not many people have done stuff with it, and a lot of things in Asia are overdone. If they do something away from Japan or China, then yeah, great. Do that, but I think it would be tiring if they became another game with a setting in Japan, especially.
Along with what dr490nw4rri0r said, there is the issue of bloodline. The only good explanation I can think of would be that a European could of shacked with a native of either areas.
I personally think they need to move forward in history a bit more, with more guns. They're training him to be an assassin, in a modern world. A lot of the skills he's learning would be come obsolete in modern times.

they'd have to be retarded to put it in asia. the games are following desmond's bloodline. he is not even remotely asian looking, so putting it in an asian setting makes absolutely no sense. south america seems plausible, but also seems like it would be far too plain. they ought to go with either england or america during the industrial revolution. this would provide an environment rife with political intrigue, codes of honor to be followed, and plenty of opportunities to create new assassin gadgets.

In a similar article, I had said colonial India. But almost anything is good. Just don't do feudal Japan, it's been done to death.

You guys are assuming Desmond is even going to be the main character in the Animus next time around. Not that I really think they'll use someone else, but you never know. Especially based on the ending of Brotherhood.
Besides, just because the game takes place in a country doesn't mean the assassin has to be from that country. They did travel after all. He could be from Europe and travel over to South America or Asia as part of the story.

I don't like either Asia or South America. Since these Assassins are Desmonds ancestors they can't have too many locations because if they did Desmond would be middle eastern, Italian, Asian and South American. I'm fine with Demond being mutli-cultural but he barely looks like he is both Italian and Middle Eastern so adding Asian and South American to the mix wouldn't fit his current look. It would be cool to see AC in different locations but they would have to follow a new main character otherwise the storyline wouldn't make much sense.

(possible spoilers)
If anyone played to the end of The Da Vinci Disappearance, I think it's pretty clear that they were teasing New York / Northeast US at the turn of the 20th century as a potential location for AC3. It makes sense in terms of the storyline, it would be different than what we've seen so far and the architecture at that time was right in between the narrow streets and alleyways we're used to in the series and the big open streets and areas more likely today (also before buildings started getting too tall). I think there would be enough there to make the game different and more interesting (more guns) but also stay true to the roots. Could also do more than one area / time period, frankly.

Female assassin would be a horrible idea.

Russia or south america would be pretty cool... maybe take a pit stop in Germany and take out Hitlers relatives.
ch4dwick
I would prefer South America too. It would probably be more logical to trace Desmond's roots all the way to North America. Asia wouldn't be a sound ancestral explanation for Desmond.
burningottsel
I thought they were moving towards the WW2 timeline with female assassins, I think the Japan idea is pretty good. I think it would be cool if Desmond and company met up with some young generation ninjas, to take down Abstrego, oh and campaign and multiplayer co op :D

A ninja assassin, hands down. Not even a question :)

Asia!!!!!!
EliteCaptainShell
I was sort of hoping it would be Desmond's Story in the future setting... But I'll take another dose of the Animus, preferably Asia, Feudal Japan sounds great to me.

I really don't care, because I can see the benefits of both. South America you have Rio de Janeiro, and So Paulo. In Asia you have Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, New Dehlia, and so many more in both places. I really don't care just I am concerned with one thing as the time line comes closer to the present how are they going to deal with guns. Is Ubisoft going to end up with a Splinter Cell with a new name? This is the question that has vexed me since I heard that they were going to make a trilogy. *shrug*
And "camaro72toy" the hardest part of Brotherhood was The Truth puzzles even then they were not that hard.
