Assassin's Creed 3 Art Director Wants To See The Series Go To Asia, South America

Assassin's Creed II

Ubisoft recently held an Assassin's Creed art exhibit in Germany where Assassin's Creed 3's art director, Mohamed Gambouz, was in attendance. The folks over at HookedGamers had the chance to ask him a few questions and of course they asked about Assassin's Creed 3. "What can you say about Assassin's Creed 3? Which setting are you thinking about now, when you think about AC3," they asked. His response was a bit surprising and a bit vague.

"Well, I personally would do something completely new. Maybe something in an Asian or South American setting, at least nothing that we have already made. But in the end it's not my decision. But you can be sure that we read the reactions of our customers in forums, blogs and Facebook and Twitter very closely and also seriously talk through the suggestions from our players from time to time. In the next few months you will truly experience more details."

This of course is just what he would like to see in the game. While Assassin's Creed 3 hasn't had an official reveal yet, we have no doubts that is coming. Last we heard, Ubisoft was planning on releasing the next Assassin's Creed game before March 31, 2012. I find it unlikely they haven't decided on a location yet and aren't well into production. Then again maybe he's just not letting information slip until Ubisoft is ready to announce something official. He is the art director after all, his opinion on the series matters.

Do you want Assassin's Creed 3 to be set in Asia or South America?

No ninjas And DEFINATELY not around china and japan it just moves too far from the core of the game and im pretty sure Desmond is not Asian and i like the European middle eastern style way more.
It would be good for it to be in Egypt,Greece,India middle east around those types of areas.

    I first prefer Asia.
Try adding Russia and Asia together in AC3. I don't know how that's going to work out, but I also prefer Russian and Asian setting.
South America sounds great, but that setting sounds too similar to AC2 and AC: Brotherhood.
The art director wanted something completely new, right?
    Asia would be your choice...

They should do China! Especially since they had a chinese assassin in the movie. Embers, that they created for the special editions of AC:Revelations!

It's most likely Asia. If not, then I hope that they get to it eventually.

ASIA YES!! Asia would work because the eurpoeans had been trading with china for a long time. kung fu assassins and chinese mountain monasteries would be sick. imagine kung gu/martial arts style fighting in ac. also japan would work because the dutch and portugese traded with the japanese and introduced guns to japan i think in the 1500s or 1600s so that would work fine. china has a lot of potential and could easily fit into the canon. japan too imagine the shogunate vs the ninjas but ac style. marco polo did make contact with genghis khan and everything so the history is there you would just have to bend it. or do it in japan during the satsuma rebellion where the whole reason it went down is over a piece of eden hidden in japan and the templars are imbedded into some western imperial force. samurais/ninjas vs modernizing emperor/western powers there is some much history that can connect to europe in asia

If I had to choose between the 2 I would say go to Asia first, but I would much rather play as Desmond for a majority of the game. I feel as though with Revelations, were you play as both Ezio and Altair, they are delving into just what I want. In Assassin's Creed 3 would be great to see Desmond doing all the amazing things that his ancestors did. And I mean this as, Desmond uses the Animus to gather skills from his blood memories and then puts those skills to work. This could not only work in Ezio and Altair, but also possible Asia, African, South American, etc. ancestors. But a Majority of the game would be Desmond going to town on some Templars.

I would love to see South American setting, but they need to bridge Asia in first so we know how Altair's family moved back west.

Oh and for the answer to the poll... both. There are temple locations all over the world and they showed Mt. Fiji in the Truth video. So I'd say not focus on only one country or continent.

I'm game for the new Revelations game to be the next in between. But for 3 they need to be focused entirely on Desmond's story. Remember back in AC2 in the hall when Desmond has the flashback with Altair? maybe use that as your "animus" Sean sais, "Assuming you'd be able to control it, which nobody has... yet." That would be pretty sweet. But I'm ready for the Animus to go bye bye

JUST READ- Medieval Asia- specifically during the time when the Mongols were trying to create a vast empire stretching all the way to the Middle East during the 13th century

Somewhere the era of Altair Ibn La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore

The story will still revolve around pieces of Eden along with warlords, emperors, generals, etc. fighting for power.

You can play NOT a ninja

but a masterless warrior (Ronin) in Feudal Japan with a few levels starting there. Then you can travel through various levels all over China and Korea and even see the Great Wall under construction.

You free-run through enormous towers, temples, palaces, tombs, underground places, etc. and the rooftops of Asian cities during this era. You can fight soldiers from China and even meet some Shaolin or whatever. Fight against evil Samurai or ninja. Then have a confrontation with Khan and the Mongols.

Asia (not just FEUDAL Japan) would be the ideal setting.

Consider how AC franchise revolves primarily on melee, bladed weapons, and limited firearms. The Chinese did invent gun powder and gun powder based weapons. Anything after the 18th century isn't ideal. The mysterious and "ancient" or "historical feel" is part of what makes AC so cool.

This ASian setting also opens up many possibilities for Asian Martial Arts unlike Ezio's European fighting style. Not to mention seeing the Eastern perspective and mentality of the storyline.

I seriously cannot see playing as a Mayan, Aztec, or Incan [or descendant of]. Are we seriously gonna swing through vines, and jump from tree to tree?

Have we forgotten the first game takes place in Asia 0_0

Whatever setting is chosen, it needs to have some sort of religious background. The Holy Land in AC1 and Italy (the birthplace of christianity) in AC2 had religious areas, which worked with the idea of the games that there is no religion.

Honestly I'm not to concerned with where it takes place but I would like to see a female assassin as the main character instead of Ezio for another game. maybe some character customization would be nice too ,make your own assassin and join with Ezio's group or something.

I've done a bit of snooping lately on this subject and have stumbled upon a few articles that give some rather compeling evidence that the setting of assassin's creed 3 has really two possible locations, France during the French Revolution, or America during the American Revolution. Here are said articles.CAUTION: they do use spoilers from the Da Vinci Dissapearence DLC.

I hope they don't do asia. I know that the whole feudal Japan thing is REALLY cool. But it just feels too cliche and too far away from the core of the series. I've heard one idea that I'm really fond of: Northeast colonial US - near the time of the revolution. They could play on the whole 'freemason conspiracy' thing and there's a huge conflict going on in the background. The buildings in NY and Boston would have been tall enough at the time for some cool free-climbing. Most importantly, it feels like a nice change from the series without having it jump out of its comfort zone entirely.
