Minecraft will be getting weather elements, including rain and snow, in its next update 1.5. The announcement came straight from the game's creator Notch. Not long after Notch confirmed rain and snow he admitted via his twitter he was getting "carried away with this weather..Adding thunder now." The effects of weather are still being decided as Notch is taking suggestions from his twitter followers, "Wolves get wet in the rain. Crops will get watered. Anything else it should affect?"

Weather elements will effect gameplay. Rain will be able to put out fires and water crops. He hasn't commented on the effects of snow or thunder yet.

They have the "neather" realm, but i was playing the other day while running around at night. Looked up at the moon and thought "huh.... a moon realm would be really fun" get moon rocks, and little green aliens... and large black obelisks that turn your brain to mush when touched (jk on the obelisks).

Rain should extinguish exposed torches. I think that would be better than the plan where torches go out after a while, but it would still give an incentive for the upcoming lanterns. And I like that idea where snow piles up.

In Red Dead redemption i noticed that dogs would cower when ever there was a thunder clap.
That was pretty cool.

Maybe like rain can effect floods and flood areas? Tornadoes and Meteors cant hurt as well. :p

Different levels of rain! Hard rain, light rain, drizzle, medium rain. Droughts. Crops die, river levels begin to lower (Filled up again when it rains). Meteors!

Meteors. If they fell very rarely but had diamonds in the center. Or a new type of stone exclusive to meteors.

Maybe he can make it so it can flood when it rains and when it snows it will put a layer of ice on bodies of water that you can slide around on.

agreed about the MP world glitch.
But weather? Awesome. I'm not regretting purchasing this game back in alpha. Best money ever spent on a game still in development. Now if only I could figure out how to get modding to work correctly.. sigh. But that's my own fault, not notch's. The game is AMAZING!

lightning should come down and if it hits somethings flamible it should catch on fire.
sometimes when it rains it should flood certain areas. the snow should have snow storms were it piles up a lot of blocks. just to make it seem real and it varys every time it rains or snows
tornados it would be funny to see animals flying around in it, it could destroy trees mess up your house if its not strong enough. but not completely destroyed just a little.
there should be different trees that have fruits on them and different plants
and a few more animals would be nice
