Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, the upcoming sequel to Earth Defense Force 2017, has a new batch of screenshots from the PS3 verison of the game. The pics were posted to the PSBlog but EDF: Insect Armageddon is multi-platform so expect to see these gigantic bugs on the PS3 and Xbox 360 when it launches this July. The screenshots came with descriptions of each of the monsters/terrestrial insects: Wolf Spider, Tick, Bomber Spider, Daddy Long Legs, Mantis, Wasp, and Black Ant. Keep reading to see them all.
VIDEO: Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Co-op Trailer
Wolf Spider [pictured above]
First up we have the Wolf Spider. This baddie attacks with webbing and by biting with its gigantic jaws. It's fast, can jump and they hunt in packs.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Approximately 10 meters in diameter (including its legs), the Wolf Spider appears to be of terrestrial origin—an enlarged mutant variant of the common wolf spider. They appear to retain the strong hunting instincts and abilities of their smaller kin as well as keen eyesight and enhanced webbing delivery.
Tick

The Tick prefers close-range attacks. There are two kinds of ticks, there are the ones spawned from Bomber Spiders and there are also "free range" ticks. Mmmm organic.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Ticks are the smallest of the Ravagers— about chest height to the average Trooper. They have a bulbous yellow and orange abdomen and resemble either a terrestrial tick or spider—although the fact that these creatures only have six legs seems to indicate that they are related to neither species. It is theorized that the caustic explosion produced by the Ticks is the result of some sort of internal chemical reaction.
Bomb Spider

Bomb Spiders are slower and less graceful than the Wolf Spider but what they lack in agility they make up for in spawning ticks. The Bomber doesn't simply spawn them either, they can be launched too.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The Bomber Spider is an enormous arachnid and is the largest organic Ravager spider encountered to date. It features pronounced mandibles and a pulsating, pockmarked golden-orange abdomen, with rather stocky, spiny legs. With a diameter of approximately 20 meters (including its legs) and height approach 10 meters, it is an imposing presence on the battlefield. Despite its organic appearance, it should be considered a hardened target.
Daddy Long Legs

The Daddy Long Legs moves slow but those long legs mean huge steps; they'll cover more ground than you'd think. And unlike the common household Daddy Long Legs, it is equipped with lasers and plasma blasters.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The Daddy Long Legs (or DLL) is structurally similar to the terrestrial arachnid it is named after. However, this Daddy Long Legs has a leg span of over 150 meters and a body the size of a house. It is entirely metallic, feature two main Ravager sensory “eyes” on the front of its body, and multiple smaller red sensors studding its legs. A large iris-like deployment hatch is located on the underside of the DLL.
Mantis

The Mantis is a mysterious enemy, little is known about its fighting style since there are rarely survivors.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This is an enormous robotic insectoid creature bearing some similarities to certain terrestrial mantis species, but different enough to suggest exclusively extraterrestrial origin. The Mantis is approximately 25 meters tall, and features 6 legs and two small wing-like appendages (which may be vestigial in nature). The four rear legs are used for locomotion, while the two forelegs serve as scythe-like weapons. The Mantis is completely metallic and displays the glowing red “eye” element, which seems to be a standard Ravager sensory device or organ.
Wasp

Wasps usually attack from the air or while hovering. Some of its moves include Aerial Venom Attack and Pin Attack. I'm pretty sure the latter is a move Beedrill can do too.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Wasps appear to be originally terrestrial in origin. They are significantly larger than Black Ants, at approximately 12-15 meters long. They are fast and agile fliers, and this particular strain of wasp seems to be extremely aggressive. They are predominately orange and yellow with black markings on abdomen.
Black Ant

Black Ants focus on underground offense and defense. They are tunnelers and attack from the ground. They stay in packs so if you only see one ant, get ready for a lot more.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Approximately 7 meters in length, the Black Ant appears to be a greatly enlarged variant of the common Black House Ant. Like its smaller cousins, the Black Ant is capable of delivering a vicious bite with its large mandibles. This variant also has the added ability of being able to spit large globs of venom over a fairly long distance.
I'm still waiting for them to announce the inclusion of the most terrifying bug ever, the Junebug.

This games looks fun! Kinda reminds me of Fallout New Vegas with all the bugs.

This game might seem bad to most but I'd totally get it just to feel like I'm in one of those old 40-80's black and white monster films!

EDF 2017 is a great game!
Only the power-ups had low-rez graphics, the rest was just fine. And what other game has you staring into the barrel of a laser gun held by a 200' robot!? Masses of enemy bugs attacking at once and the troops going into battle with you saying all kinds of crazy things. Massive spaceships raining down even more bug,...OMG what a fun game!
Sad that so many only care about Gears and Resistance and don't remember that games are supposed to be about having fun.
I look forward to the next installment!

Bad games can still be fun! The first one was glitchy, but it was still fairly enjoyable.

It's like someone tried to make a joke and it backfired into complete awesomeness.

I'm absolutely in love with EDF 2017 and it's the first game my 5 year old son beat. Despite the bad graphics and terrible level design, the game is so addicting and is a ton of fun.
I really hope all the added features don't take away from the simplicity of the original's gameplay. I really hope they're just holding back on the enemies and they bring the robots back, too.

The only thing I know about these games is from the Two Best Friends Play series on Machinima. They look stupid but is that the point? Like a game where it's just supposed to be relaxing and not taken seriously?
BONERJAM
I'm actually kind of interested.

The Junebug could be the tank!

This game was totally designed by a 5 year old, and I am ok with that.
