Over the last few days, a full 11 new PlayStation 3 positions have appeared on Bungie's "Help Wanted" section. We've known of the Halo developer's plans to go multiplatform since they announced plans to work with Activision, and these aren't the first PS3 people Bungie has hired, but it's notable if only for the volume of bodies the company is bringing in. They're getting serious about the PlayStation 3 now.
Here are the open positions:
* Senior Graphics Engineer
* AI Programmer
* (Entry or Mid-Level) Network Engineer
* Gameplay Engineer
* Graphics Programmer
* Server Tools Engineer
* Tools Engineer
* Server Programmer
* (Entry or Mid-Level) UI Engineer
* Senior Server Programmer
* Senior Tools Development Engineer
The listings themselves reveal little about the project that is being worked on. In fact, they tend toward the hyperbolic (and awesome). One thing Bungie doesn't need is a help-wanted ad writer.
Sample:
"We’re seeking a grizzled veteran, skilled in the arts of war and programming, to join our quest for world domination. Bring your strength to our cause, inspire awe in those around you, and make our games great. Help us conquer the beast called graphics and feast with us upon its black heart."
and
"Bungie seeks a scrappy, brilliant programmer to weld 50 caliber machine guns onto the back of our toy trucks, and to develop a new shovel for building bullet proof sandcastles. If you can easily hold complex, self-consistent alternate realities in your head and transcribe them into code, then we want to hear from you.
From a certain standpoint, you could read this ad, for a Senior Server Programmer, as indicating that whatever PS3 game Bungie is cooking up will not be a single-player experience, but that's hardly a surprise, eh?
"Create, champion, and control some of the most load-intensive server-side game features the world has ever witnessed by taking on the role of a Senior Server Programmer at Bungie. Previous experience might include platform-wide Matchmaking services that successfully dispatched hundreds of thousands of concurrent combatants or massive back-ends that cut a brutal swath through a merciless horde of high-load multiplayer features. If you accept our challenge, you WILL be responsible for design and implementation of multiple large, awesomely innovative features. Proven ability to work in code and databases of your own design is essential. Godspeed."
Feel free to pore through these listings yourself, of course, and apply for a couple while you're at it, ya bum.

I'm just waiting to see candid or w/e his name is and grav666. This is the first I've heard about Bungie's new project in a long time and they both called me a retarded troll the last time. But anyways seeing as Bungie is getting PS3 specific positions I don't think that they will have as hard a time with the new game as some people think.

@Jeepspot - Bungie themselves have stated that they have had a team on this game for a year + while having their main team work on Reach. Bungie has been hiring on their website for over a year for a new IP. Even with that being said, when the majority of their team is moved onto the new game, they will have a completely different experience they've never seen with PS3 and history shows us that first time developers, AAA developers have had a really hard time on their first PS3 projects. Now I'm not saying it will be crappy, Bungie is very anal about their quality, but so is Valve.

Developing for the PS3 is always a great idea. PS3 programmers are getting to the level and experience now that building from the ground up is a viable and practical option with great results (Take a look at Crysis, Mass Effect 2, and all of the PS3 Exclusives). Even for cross platform games that were weak when porting over from the 360 dev side, they always add in a great chunk of sales that makes it completely worth it to the publishers even if it sells less that the 360 version. I think Bungie making an amazing decision to give players what they want, to make more money, and the OPPORTUNITY to make a better looking game than the 360. However, this will be up to how good the dev team in and how much time they want to put into the PS3 version. And to be honest, both versions will most likely be pretty similar as usual.

Soo, Bungie has been working on this game for over a year now and they are only starting to hire for PS3 ? I love the PS3 but I know it's history with 1st time developer's, this game is going to end up being a timed release apart from the 360 version or it's going to end up like a valve game on PS3. Activision knows a new Bungie game will bank on 360 alone so I wouldn't doubt it.

I am always happy to hear a big company be willing to put more resources into Playstation 3 games. Hopefully, this adds a few more great games to the library.

"acquired by activision" ? I thought they only had a publishing deal with activision?
hoof_hearted4
being a PS3 only owner, i must say im excited to get a game made by the legendary Bungie. im a little worried that their next game will be too halo like, but even if it is, i wont mind playing a halo-esque game on PS3, and if its not halo-esque, i hope whatever they come up with is just as good. time to finally enjoy Bungie!
DESnuts91
i hope activision dosent run bungie into the ground : (

Bungie making the futuristic Call of Duty might make it NOT fail, but I'm sure Bungie has better things to do.

This might cheer me up, but any Bungie success (whom I've liked since Marathon) means more money for Activision (whom I despise).

i guess they need some help and don't know how to use ps3 before...

G4, just to straighten this out, Bungie was NOT acquired by Activision, Activision simply just is the Publisher for the next 10 years nothing more. Bungie is it's own independent corporation.

Such a good developer and I'm excited to see what they make but what exclusive developers does 360 have? Epic now makes multi plats, Mass Effect is published by EA thus multi plat, and now Bungie.
