EA has issued cease and desist orders to fan sites that host flash versions of Ultima IV. A publisher requesting a smaller site to remove copyrighted content isn't surprising, but what is out of the ordinary is these fan sites have been hosting Ultima IV for 14 years without issue. The shocking requests for removal is sparking many to believe EA is gearing up to announce a new Ultima game.
Earlier this week we discovered EA was looking into hiring a "web ninja" to work on their a new, unannounced and revolutionary MMO. Then BioWare Mythic creative director Paul Barnett tweeted about a "secret project."
Ultima is a series of fantasy RPGs created by Richard Garriot. EA currently hold the rights to the series. The last game to be released in the franchise was Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss which came out in 2009 but the last game in the main series, Ultima IX: Ascension, came out in 1999.
Do you think EA is working on a new Ultima game? Are you even interested in more Ultima?

Ultima IV and V have already been unoficially ramed with next gen software already.

They could be gearing up for a remake of Ultima IV to next-gen. It would be rather awesome if they remade Ultima IV, V, VI, and VII in next-gen. Those were the best of the series. Ultima VIII and IX were the downfall and why most of the fan base dispersed.
I still have my Ultima Collection CD and play them off and on.
Ultima IV was released on the original NES and Sega of the time. Another thought, they might be release a version for the Wii Virtual Console or a DS remake. Look at how Square remade some of the older (S)NES Final Fantasies for the DS. EA might be following what they did. EA did release the crappy version of Ultima VII for SNES on the PSP awhile back. The PC version was much better.

are they trying to catch final fantasy in the number of sequels? i don't think that can happen.

I do find it funny that EA is doing this after all this time especially since Ultima IV was made freeware by them sometime years back. So something has to have made them change their mind all of the sudden. If they do have a new game in the works it could possibly be a reboot of the series(which seems to be the popular trend now) starting with Ultima 4. Since the Ultima series didn't really have much of a storyline till Ultima 4.

Has anyone tried Lords of Ultima (not that I have)? This browser based game owned by EA is probably the reason.

Paul barnett sucks. I can see why he still works at EA though.....He suckered hundreds of thousands of players into buying warhammer online.
