This morning, Rockstar Games released a couple of new photos of Max Payne 3, accompanied by a simple tweet reading:
"He's coming."
These are the first Max Payne screenshots that have come out in years. Literally! (Here's the last batch.) When last we heard, Max Payne 3 was originally scheduled for a 2009 release, but currently, Rockstar has not revealed anything about when we can expect to see the game. Your guess is (almost) as good as mine.
The shots reveal little if anything about the game, although they look a bit like stills from a trailer. I imagine we'll be seeing a lot of this kind of hint-hint release of stuff between now and E3, as game companies keep the hype machines stoked before the big reveals at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.
There's a second screen under the "Read More" tag.

When it comes to gritty hardcore realistic games, Rockstar always come through. GTA, Red Dead Redemption, they're even giving a showing of LA Noir at the Tribeca Film festival. I am confident that they won't let fans down with Max Payne.

I dont know. I love the first one. It definitely brought something new to the game industry. However, 2 was ok, i doubt there is a real need for 3rd edition.

Well personally I hope Mona is not...
let me rephrase this. I think this game will suck. I don't think the plot and story telling features will be anything like Max Payne 1 or 2. I'm pretty sure this game will be a constant run and shoot typical action game.
With that said, I would think Mona being in MP3 would be either because she stays with Max and moves with him down to the Drug Town or everyone is retarded and the writers are cheap. It wouldn't make sense for Mona to some how be involved in Columbia. And someone 'hiring' her would be a lame arc.
Now I'm sure a lot of people who love Max Payne and R* are going to be mad at me for saying what I just said, but it's just how I feel. I'm a huge Max Payne fan, the very first game was amazing. What Sam Lake did was beyond a masterpiece as far as Storylines go. I liked Max Payne 2 but there were certain parts of the story I didn't like (although Vlad's last words, oh my god! Brilliant!) but it did get me hooked on Poets of The Fall.
Now as far as the movie goes, I hate it, for several reasons. It was a bad movie. You can't screw with Max Payne's storyline like that. Hitman was a movie that I found myself enjoying even though they made the movie absolutely NOTHING like the game story. I mean nothing was the same except the bald suit wearing hitman. I still liked the movie though, but I think that is more of a Testimony to Timothy Olyphant and Robert Knepper and their acting. I could see Hitman being pretty good to someone who didn't play the games.
Anyway back on point, the Max Payne movie was again, nothing like the game. I mean once again Hollywood proves that it believes it can take a reputable name and slap on anything and think people will flock to see it. I wish I could understand how Video Game companies could take the insult of being told, "Your games storyline is not good enough to be a movie!" because that's what they are saying.
My other reason for hating the Max Payne movie is that there was a film being made in england called, "Max Payne: Payne and Redemption" that had an AWESOME trailer to it (which I hope you still find online somewhere) and would've been a TRUE Max Payne film (Sam Lake himself said he was excited for the movie) but Fox was afraid it would confuse people and decided to use suing to stop the project. The movie itself has never recovered.
So it's not that I am a Max Payne hater or a R* hater, I just look at what I've seen from this production thus far and don't believe it's Max Payne. I'm getting pretty cynical with the gaming world.

Max Payne really... the first one was simply ok the second one wanted to be silent hill. for the third one just get rid of the lil comic book panels for story telling... and the slow motion crap...
CamperHunter1
So... have they revealed which plot point they were continuing from Max Payne 2 yet?
SPOILER:
Beat the game on any difficulty except Dead on Arrival - Mona dies
Dead on Arrival - Max is able to revive her.

Also, the fact that Rockstar can just tweet "He's coming" and show a few pictures and generate much anticipation says something about them. What a great company.

He looks sooo different.

Out of innate curiousity, I am excited for this. Not because I really want it (to be honest), but more as to curious to see on how an entry in this franchise will do this gen. It's also good to see some info on this, to be sure it's actually still in development. Now if only we could get some info on Agent, aye RockStar?

I thought he died in 2? I guess I will have to replay...
