With the launch of the Nintendo 3DS following the launches of both the Kinect and Playstation Move, there seems to be an influx of new gaming technology. While sales of these new pieces of hardware seem successful, the question is do they enhance our gaming experience? In this week's Soapbox, Adam expresses his confusion over these new gadgets and his fears that the gaming industry is putting technology before creativity.

The 3D effect on the 3DS is very over rated. Once you're done being mildly impressed you have to actually deal with the lousy game line up and the fact that 3D alone does not make any game better or worse. Wait...it might make them worse if you get a headache.

I agree nintendo is completely about gimmicks. I bought a 3ds knowing that I wanted the games but didnt want anything to do with the 3d part of it. I looked at the 3d when I first got it just to see what its like but im afraid my consoles 3d slider will be in a permanent off position as its nothing more then a gimmick strain on my eyes

Couldn't agree any more. Apparently advances can't be localized to power, speed, graphic, and input devices that are natural (Such as controllers, and Voice). Instead of working on graphical gimmicks how about engineers work on the communication aspect. If I can talk to the characters in the game it would help deepen my experience with the characters and their story.

Great soapbox, but don't be hating on Sucker Punch, if you went into wanting something crazy it worked well. :D
