Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a multiplayer horror game that has been rumored to be in production. Now we know Slant Six Games is working on the title for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The first details of the game will appear in Official Xbox Magazine's May Issue. But since this thing called the internet exists we can see those details now.
RE: Operation Raccoon City takes you and three other players back to 1998, the year the first T-Virus outbreak occurred. RE:ORC will be team-based and include new characters, Vector, Beltway, Spectre, and Bertha. They are members of the official Umbrella Security Services squad. Each character will have their own unique skills, making team work essential to survival. As far as gameplay style the article says, "This is not a one-versus-one game where you've got one clip full of ammo and zombies on you. If you've ever thought of those times in an RE game when you thought, 'I'd wish I had a big gun', that's what this game is. It's not fair to give people big guns, then take all the ammo away."
You'll be fighting against familiar enemies: zombies. These zombies can hunt you down using sight, sound and smell. Not only will you be fighting the zombies, you'll also be destroying evidence that the outbreak ever occurred. Depending on how you play the game you'll be able to "change the history of Resident Evil".
Yesterday we confirmed Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica would be re-released in HD. Are you ready for all these Resident Evil games?
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is due this winter for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Make sure to check out OXM's May issue to see all the details for yourself.

Resident Evil is going to be awesome coming soon but I want to know is this new Resident Evil going to be like the other Resident Evil games ?

So its resident evils answer to Left4Dead...I suppose it could be cool. Itll be fun fighting real zombies again. Not that I dont like Resi 4 and 5 they are awesome but just not quite zombies.

So what we're saying here is that when my character trips and falls in the middle of 40 zombies, one ablaze, wielding nothing more than a wet match and a butter knife, i'll be able to enlist the help of my teammates? Please tell me that's what you're saying, because I don t want to have Resident Evil induced anxiety attacks anymore.

Raccoon City again!? Seriously, they need a new location, they keep coming back here when the story has already been explained 100s of times in this one damn city. Hopefully they find more locations to explore rather than be in the streets for the 100th time.

Heard a lot of people saying the gameplay is going to be like L4D. IT"S NOT.
1. It's a third person game, just wouldn't work.
2. The rumor is they'll bring back the old camera system.
3.?????? I dunno but there is probably 20 other things others can think of.

Yeah, I remember Outbreak as well. It was a great addition to the series; however, it had a few fault to its mechanics: lack of communcation between players, and lack of pvp( which wasn't a big deal back then) but I would have been nice. Also, there wasn't that much content in terms of replay ability, so hopefully, they'll correct their passed mistakes. They also tried a second Outbreak, but the sales were horrible and the game lost its spunk after the first.

Awsome RE4 HD along with Veronica. RE4 was an amazing game, Veronica was also fun. I remeber playing it on the dreamcast long time ago. RE:ORC sounds really cool as well. Just gotta wait for some more info before I am completely sold.

I'm genuinely excited for this game, that's if Slant Six can pull this off properly (i.e Resident Evil: Outbreak style). Outbreak had a great premise for it's time. Better so than what Left 4 Dead has now, in some ways.
Example: Players, in Outbreak, can nail boards across doors, barricade entrances and exits using objects, even have the ability to crawl around to a fellow team mates, if incapacitated, to be revived; all to prevent the zombies from easily getting to the players and completing objectives. The best part is if a player isn't treated in time from a bite, then they turn into zombies themselves and turn on their co-op allies.
All of this may seem familiar because L4D has been using a similar idea for awhile now, but in a more action shooter kind of way.
What failed for Resident Evil: Outbreak was the inability to use headset communication. Players had to resort to using the D-pad for predetermined communications which left players to fend for themselves most of the time, or by blowing past allies to achieve their objectives lone wolf style. Hopefully, with RE: Operation Raccoon City, we can voice chat to other players, and overall have an experience that Outbreak couldn't provide at the time.

Although it sounds similar to L4D, I'm excited to see this. Also, why doesn't Capcom make more of the Onimusha games. I loved those except for Dawn of Dreams

I really hope that this game will be the spiritual successor to the Outbreak games. Please don't just be a FPS with zombies, be an actual survival horror game with actual puzzles, tough fights, limited resources, and not convoluted storyline with underlining racism and superpowers.

Slant Six sucks, did we learn nothing from Socom Confrontation?
Spiritfire2012
I approve of this idea.

Left 4 Dead needs some royalties for all the companies ripping them off lately. Anyway, this particular one probably won't work because Resident Evil zombies are slow zombies, while Left 4 Dead zombies run up to you. For slow zombies to work, like in Treyarch's zombie add-on in Call of Duty, it has to be a Hoard mode ripoff, where you stay put and they amble over to you.
Or they could come up with something original. Their choice.

Left 4 Dead in Raccoon City?
I think given the success of Left 4 Dead, this is the only reasonable direction for the series. I mean lets face it, the series was getting kind of stale.
HotDogCharlie
I wish they would make a game like Outbreak (like GatsuBlackSword said) where you are just normal survivors trying to survive and escape a zombie apocalypse. Regular, old fashioned zombies...not tentacle sprouting, worm zombies. (Who also happen to be Blacks or Spaniards)

I'm a big fan of all RE series, and I like the new fresh ideas for the franchise! And RE 2 was the first RE game i played on psone so it'll nice to see the town again! :) I'll buy it for sure!
BONERJAM
I lost faith in Capcom long ago and I don't think this will change that.
