The cover athlete on the next Madden game, Madden NFL 12, will be chosen by fans. Beginning today and continuing through April 27, fans can participate in a bracket-style voting campaign on on ESPN's site. You'll choose among 32 candidates (one from every NFL team). Fans’ votes will determine which NFL players advance through the seeded bracket, culminating in the reveal of the Madden NFL 12 cover athlete on ESPN’s “SportsNation” on April 27.
“Whether it be from fans, media, agents, or even the players themselves, there’s never a shortage of opinions when it comes to the annual selection of the Madden NFL cover athlete,” said Anthony Stevenson, Senior Product Manager of EA Sports. “So this year we’re handing the keys over to the public."
This is the second year fans have chosen the cover model for Madden. Last year, New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, fresh off a Super Bowl XLIV MVP award, won, beating out Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne and Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen.
The obvious choice for cover athlete in 2012 is Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Michael Vick, because he's the best player in the NFL, and because he was convicted of animal cruelty after staging pitbull fights. Can you imagine the public outcry if he becomes cover athlete of the next Madden game? That's what I call "fun!" Then, when that dies down, Vick will become a vick-tim (get it?) of the "Madden Curse" and his fate will be poetically sealed. It's a win-win. Dog-lovers should rush to gather votes for Vick, as his life will fall apart after winning... although, how it could fall much further than a bid in the stony lonesome for dog-fighting is hard to imagine.
If you can't bring yourself to vote for Vick, you should put in for the Bills' receiver Steve Johnson because he has the the best name in the NFL.
Of course, there's doubt as to whether there will actually be a a football season this year, which would mean any potential cover-boy on Madden 12 might be cursed because of his appearance on the cover.

Le'me see the 12th man get it!
Surely an entire city can beat the Madden Curse.. Surely.
JeeFourTeeVee
I really wanna see the entire city of Seattle be cursed.
But really, they should have put Greg Jennings instead of Aaron Rodgers.
He "put the team on his back do" lol
ricosan
If another Madden curse applies, put in Aaron Rogers... I hate that guy lol #soreloser

Just so you know, Vick was on the cover of Madden already back in 2006. And, the curse did not disappoint! He broke his leg at the start of the 2007 season and sat out the rest of the year. And, the year after that...well, you know.

i hope the 12th man makes the cover seahawks are my fav team
graphxking
Who wrote this garbage? Seriously.
lol at the Seahawks though. That did give me a good laugh.

HINES WARD baby! Vick was on 2004, WR's never get any credit, other than Fitzgerald in 10. and Brees 2 years in a row? No season anyway, good thing Hines is on Dancing With The Stars!!!
JohnnyBuku
They should just use the NFL logo and maybe Goodell on the cover since they are about to shoot themselves in the 9 billion dollar foot anyway. LOL if they follow the 1987 model they will be playing all unknown scabs anyway, so the cover guy might currently be working a day job right this very minute!

Wait... we get to choose who will get hurt this year? Seems kind of evil, doesn't it? Someone could rig the votes so the "12th man" is selected. Seattle might want to start building extra hospitals now.
Anyways. I wish Peyton Manning would be on the cover. Unless he declines the offer.

The first thought I had about a vote was to make sure my favorite players don't get voted on there. Vick might not want the cover, since he's already experienced the curse, breaking his leg pre-season and missing most of a season a few years ago.
Camazing
So funny that EA couldn't find a player to be the Seahawks rep.
It'd be hilarious for the fans to vote for Michael Vick on the cover, but Aaron Rodgers is definitely the "obvious" choice.
ppitchfork
how insulting to seattle fans that their representative is "the 12th man"... which i'm voting for, btw
BONERJAM
I hope its not Adrain Peterson, the Vikes have enough problem without adding AP to the IR. I'm guessing it will be Aaron Rodgers which is fine with me since the curse should keep the Pack out of the SB.

No Troy Polamalu? No thanks.

Everyone Vote For Tim Tebow

Wow, I am a Bills fan and I LOL'd when I realized our WR and G4's Steve Johnson have the same name.

BORING!

If you're worried about your team getting the "Madden Curse", then just vote for Peyton Hillis of the Browns. They're already cursed, so there would be no harm done.
JustTheBeginning
So they are really doing a normal madden this year when all signs point to no NFL this year? Im not sure if sales will be down or up because of a higher demand for anything football.
PS... And LOL @ Michael Vick as best player in the NFL, he has one good season and looses in his first playoff game and suddenly he is the best, makes sense to me!
vanphelan
If the 12th Man makes it, everyone who lives in Seattle should be worried about how the curse is going get them. It will be like Final Destination.
