Japanese developer Miracle Kidz announced that it is developing "Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari 2" for release on consoles this summer in Japan.
"What the hell is that?" you may ask. Why, it's River City Ransom 2! The beat-em-up that originally came out for the NES back in 1989.
River City Ransom 2 is being developed by staff members who worked on theRCR, and Miracle Kidz has reportedly selected core players to take part in the development.
Hopefully, we'll see an American release of the sequel to this much beloved game. I'll definitely let you know anything about an American release of the game.

Don't forget to mention miracle kidz and million have gotten together,
to produce A remake of the original nekketsu kouha kunio-kun for nintendo 3DS.
in america this would be Renegade,
The 3ds version has over 6 levels of arcade mode play,
A story mode, A v.s. mode, and battle royal mode..
so this would equal to Renegade, river city ransom, RCR2 (which was a fudal era game with kunio and friends.) Nekketsu Dansetsu, ( which was the final game for nes a comple battle royal version.)
Nekketsu soccer, hockey, & super sports challange. all rolled into one 3DS special..
Miracle kidz, and million both.. have taken there time with this game,
and Nekketsu kouha kunio-kun (3DS)special is thankfully better then the original.
More updates on this game can be found all over the internet.
and can be found on both the miracle kidz, and nintendo 3ds's web site.
this game was released on 12 -15 2011 along with a bonus preorder soundtrack featuring 20 original songs from the game.
And might i add, nekketsu kouha kunio-kun special has been a huge hit ever since it's release.

Freakin Awesome! River City Ransom was one of the best games on NES, really advanced for when it came out. I've been waiting for a decent remake for a long time, was bummed out by the gameboy advance one.

Loved this game as a kid! Remember when you could pick up a game, play it for a couple hours, beat it with a friend(s), then do it all over again next week? That's what this game was for me and I hope it is brought back to the US.

It's so awesome that they're bringing this game back to life, and sharing the love with US gamers, just like they did with Earthbound 2/Mother 3 - oh wait...

Sigh...excited...and then shot down. I sooooooo hope they bring it to Xbox and if nothing else, the original would be nice on XBLA.

For the SNES "Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun" with the alternative title of River City Ransom 2. Both were made by Technos but "Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun" was only released in Japan.
I really hope this time around they bring it out in North America. I think it would be a perfect candidate for digital distribution.

As simple as the game was it was fun. This is another one of those long-lost titles that deserves a modern version.
