If you want to be in the beta test Star Wars: The Old Republic you'd better get in line as the beta test already has 1.5 million registered users dying to wield a lightsaber. No beta start date has even been announced, but according to an article from GameIndustry.biz, EA Chief Financial Officer Eric Brown said, "We've got well north of a million, million and a half ready to test for free."
Brown went on to say, "We're not that concerned about generating initial demand. For us it's about creating the right experience, expanded beyond the tier one and the tier two users."
If you want to try your chances for a beta invite you can sign up to be a participant. May the force be with you, you're going to need all the luck you can get.

Why is comparing gameplay to WoW a bad thing? Take the foundation of something amazing, build upon it, and finish with an even better product.
I don't think they are trying to reinvent the wheel here... just make it better & slap Star Wars on it.
WoW + Star Wars + BioWare = I may never leave my house again.

Yeah, lots of multiple fanboy signups here. And even still, beta test signs up aren't that inspiring... Star Wars, and fancy CGI trailers...that'd make people sign up for sitting in a box of dirt.

I hope EA doesn't force them to rush this like they did with Dragon Age 2. (and every other publisher has done with virtually every other MMO released in recent memory)

Wow, that is an incredible number. Amazing.

Was so pissed off I didn't get to play the demo at PAX, but I did get into the "after party" saturday where I got to meet the developers so that was cool.

Bioware is taking lots of my money this year =). 90% of the time I'm kicking myself for not trying out a MMO. I'd get it, but whether or not to subscribe for a period of time is the real question. Got my eye on Tera and Guild Wars 2 this year too.

I've been waiting for this game for about five years now and all I wanted to do was be a jedi badass and be rude to people. That hasn't changed

2 of those are me on different email addresses (accidently).
if you're tired of hotkey MMOs this game won't be for you, neither will RIFT no matter how good it is (and it is damn good).
i'm just curious about what you do once you've completed your story...
more dailies or...are you forced into creating alts?

i hear it plays like wowcraft. this is disappointing to me. guess i'll wait to see what beta testers are saying when they get their hands on it.

I am glad that someone was able to post the kinds of numbers that the Beta is attracting. However it is worth considering doing a little fact checking as Bioware has been in Beta testing for many months, a fact that they have announced, and in no way tried to hide.
That information and more can be found here: http://www.swtor.com/community /showthread.php?t=165645

I hope I get in.

Only people are active in the SWTOR community even get considered for Beta.. It has been that way from the very start and will not change. So if your hoping to play beta and just go and sign up.. Forget it.. You have to earn your way with Bioware in order for them to give you the goods..

with as much hype as this game has, I can tell that the first day maybe even the first few days are going to be hell for BioWare. I can see their servers crashing from so many people trying to get on at once.
