PAX East always has some amazing discussions and panels about what it takes to make a great game, and this year was no different. Inspired by these conversations, Adam decided to take a moment and get on his Soapbox to discuss why he thinks world-building is one of the most important elements of video game development. Is it the universe that drives you? Or do games motivate you in other ways?

    Kratier is a worthless POS. He is here to bash Adam and G4. 99% of his comments which can be accessed through his profile are negative towards Adam and G4. If Kratier knows so much about the video game industry, I suggest he starts his own company. But it would be hard for him considering he spends all his time here bashing.

    My suggestion is to get a life Kratier, get a F-ing life.

    @Kratier
    Your calling someone(me) who thrives on engaging stories and plot points a man child? I don't have to defend myself but I will!

    Assassins Creed 1,2,Brotherhood, can be very engaging if you have any knowledge of history. Fallout series, Mass Effect series, if you have any understanding of the human condition and how real world relationships are made and broken every day. Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, if you have an understanding of war history and weapons.

    I agree with everything that Adam said in this Soapbox, because I believe a game is much more fulfilling when it is engaging, thought provoking, and in his words "A world I want to save."

    I question your post, because at no point did you actually discuss the subject matter of the Soapbox. Instead you went on a rant about why you are better than other gamers. And all that I did was post a silly comment about the video. But I can't really add to what Adam already is trying to convey in this Soapbox.

    So I guess silly comment = worthless gamer????????????

    god damn you cannot take this seriously when you got the intended audience of video games standing behnd him with a cone on their head,

    fat neckbeard man children who have no sense of style or self worth,

    nothing you said was taken seriously, you pander to an audience of man children who have no idea how to live on their own. nobody will ever take games seriously solely because of the intended audience, nobody can take is seriously when you pander 6 hour long railshooting cutscene

    Having finished Dragon Age II, I have to say that while I don't agree with Adam's criticisms of that game voiced here (yes, DA2 has flaws, but I don't feel it's as flawed a game as Adam believes it is), I /do/ agree with his sentiment "Give me a world I want to save".

    All the games I've truly loved felt larger than what I saw as a player. They felt immersive and "true" on some basic, persistent level which made the worlds memorable, and made me care about what I experienced there, as a part of that world.

    I think that creature from Bioshock took a dump. Cone head is just securing the sector until help arrives.

    I Totally agree with u Adam. When Bioshock came out i was hooked! The undersea of rapture that the game exposed to us was pronominal! Nowadays first person shooters can be so darn repetitive. I want that sense of discovery again like i experienced with Bioshock! Here's hopping Bioshock infinite can do the same for when im in the sky. lol

    I agree and since i have been playing it today i want to mention Homefront. That game got a 3/5 from G4 which i strongly disagree with, because that game creates an amazing world even though it does take place in real locations. It gives you a sense that you are fighting through a real place, while you are fighting in civilian areas there are babies crying people screaming and it just feels like you are actually fighting in a place where people live. Anyway good soapbox. Have fun at PAX.

    Nice soapbox Adam, but a new promo should be done for Feedback because I still see posts from people asking where Abbie is.
