Diablo 3 is the next Blizzard game hitting PC (hopefully) sometime next year, but according to an interview Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime had with MVC, the game may be coming to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles as well. I'll allow a second for the PC gamers reading this to go and punch a wall.
In the interview, Morhaime said, "We haven’t made any decisions yet, but a lot us feel that if ever there was a Blizzard franchise that could play well as a console game, then [Diablo's] probably it." We've known that Blizzard has been toying with the idea of Diablo 3 on the console for a while, as Morhaime noted on the subject during DICE and the company listed a job opening for a Senior Producer, Console for Diablo 3 in Feburary. Right now, they're still investigating if it could work on console, but with dungeon crawlers like Torchlight translating so well from the PC to the Xbox 360, I wouldn't be surprised if they took the leap.
I'm really upset by this news. PC gamers don't often get exclusive masterpieces which we can call our own like Playstation 3 users get Uncharted, or Xbox 360 users get Halo and Gears of War. I'm sure the minds at Blizzard will make Diablo 3 absolutely fantastic on consoles, but for me, I can't look forward to Diablo 3 coming out on a console for all to enjoy. As someone who played Final Fantasy XI on PC back in the day, a game that was constantly inhibited by "PS2 limitations" I'm terrified for what this means for Diablo 3.
This development has Acitivision written all over it.

the whole idea of being mad that the game is going console is stupid. People should be happy that more people will be able to experience such a great game. The PC community as a whole is a lot smaller then the that of console games. Also a lot of PC gamers wouldn't be able to play the game because the computer requirements are sooo high on a high profile game like Diablo 3. Stop moaning this is a great thing if it goes through!

@Axex1606- For any PC title to make it's way to a console like Xbox360 for example. XBLA is the only way they can get the type of support needed. So you're right about that, PC's will always have the advantage over consoles with services like Battle.net. Unless Activision go super-duper corporate on everyone and make Battle.net servers for consoles as well.

Jesus Leah, don't be such a fangirl. first off, I dont think Activision has any control over the games Blizz puts out, or else all their games would have been driven into the ground by now. Second, "PC gamers don't often get exclusive masterpieces which we can call our own like Playstation 3 users get Uncharted, or Xbox 360 users get Halo and Gears of War." PC gamers have pretty much every MMO exclusive, plus SC. No need to scream bloody murder when one series, when it was originally a console game, goes back to its roots. I understand being upset if it was going consoles-only, but until then, please stop whining, and I mean that in the nicest way possible

well thats great not like am getting it. how about putting star wars old republic on consoles dumdass.

Shame on you Leah, you call yourself a true Blizzard fan yet you forgot the one thing that prevents any of Blizzards current titles from translating at all to the consoles: Battle.Net. Sure Sony might allow it on the PS3 like they did VALVe's steam, but I've not heard anything about a 3rd party platform being allowed on X360. And if Torchlight ported well to the 360, thats where Blizzard would want to go with a Diablo game for sure.
Also, do your research. http://us.blizzard.com/ diablo3/community/ They specifically state "Diablo-related" which means it would not be Diablo 3 that would come to consoles. And as others have said, Activision has no control over Blizzard whatsoever, so get your head out of your ass.

This is seriously an example of a fanboy crying over spilt milk. Oh boo hoo Diablo 3 might be on consoles too. Did she really say that PCs don't have any exclusive titles?? Um how about Wow, Starcraft, LOTR, Star Wars, Crysis and basically any other awesome MMO, Shooter or strategy game to ever come out for the PC.
If anything a lot of PC games are just now making the transistion to console, simply because consoles are powerful enough to even power a gams as big as some of the PC games. Quit yer belly aching, they never said that it's not coming to PCs only that they might make a console version of the game too. So you'll have your precious...geez!!

It takes Blizzard long enough to make a pc game, and now they are going to up their work load by porting it to consoles? It is going to be 2015 before we get this game now, let alone the first of the expansions.
Also, a couple people have mentioned "high end" gaming machines to play this game. People, this is Blizzard, you can play this on a calculator. They aren't Crytek who take pleasure is forcing people to drop $1000 on their computers to make it playable.

SO people fear for "PS2 limitations" PC games it a slap in the face. When the 360 sets limitations for PS3 gamers it a "Hallelujah the game isnt PS3 exclusive anymore!!"
As a PC gamer who plays SC1 and D2 still to this day, I could care less if it come to PS3/360. Either way I am buying it. I just thought it was interesting to point out the difference of opinion and how its the cool thing to bash the PS3/PS2.

Haha, yeah right and next they'll put crysis on a con...sole.... Craaaaap

This is a perfect example of why G4 is such a joke now. I'm calling you out Leah Jackson. This is making you the worst of the worst fangirls/boys. I started with the original Diablo and have no problem with it coming to console. In fact I'd buy it on pc and console I love the series that much. Assuming Activision is behind this is completely ridiculous. Blizzard and Activision do their own things and don't impose on each other, and this post shows you have no faith in Blizzard whatsoever. There will be no "console limitations" this time around either. Look at Torchlight on XBLA like is said in the post. Get off your pc high horse.

I say more games for everyone. Not everyone can buy a high end PC, or they would just like to put a game in and play it without having to deal with settings. I have a gaming PC, so I'm going to buy it for that. But my younger brothers don't (they are young and broke), and I would love for them to experience the same visceral experience that the developers are sure to deliver. Plus, they need to break out of the PC market at some point. Their last attempts have been utter failures and I think Diablo would be a good success to start out with.

"This development has Acitivision written all over it." Wouldn't expect that statement to come from a professional seeing as how you should know Blizzard still has creative control and their 'previous' owner, Vivendi, still owns Blizzard, by now owning ActivisionBlizzard, Acitivsion isn't pulling Blizzard's strings. Blizzard has always had interest in console games, remember SC on N64?
JimmyWild
Yeah i'm not against a console version. I'm going to play on PC though. FFXI is a good example of cross platform done wrong (or at least not ideally). Would have to agree with others that this is Blizzard, they should do it right.
ZyloWolfBane
I'd be happier if it were on consoles, my spouse and I dont have two computers anymore but we do have two PS3s, it would be the perfect way for us to play it together.
I also cant afford to upgrade my PC to play it on my own either, so this is actually good news, I'd probably still prefer the PC version for having the mouse/keyboard/hotkeyes and clearly superior graphics/performance with a high quality PC.
But seriously, PC gaming has been too secluded for way too long and upgrades are getting even more expensive than they have ever been because every new game has to push the PC specs to the absolute limit, and its not worth it on top of a monthly fee to play more than half of those games.
Instead of being jealous pricks you could just be happy that a wider audience will be able to enjoy a GOOD game, ya know...like real gamers would be.
Besides, imagine if they have cross-platform for it (Highly unlikely since alot of limitations with XBL would screw with that for anyone with a PS3 since we arent allowed to have something they cant have) the community would be HUGE and be around even longer than diablo 1&2 ever were! How could you be MAD about something that cool!?

I'm actually quite hopeful that this will wean out most of the 14 year old a holes that did their best to ruin d2 for me and that everyone knows mainly play and get complained about on xbox (no hate for non idiotic xbox players) and that we can have a (semi) sacred experience that we all have been waiting years and years for. Here's hoping.
BobitoZ
Oh god. How I cringed when you mentioned "PS2 Limitations."
I do fear Diablo III might be limited in someways if this were to happen.
DreamingDarklyRobin
I hate exclusives, and it's not as if this game isn't possible on consoles. Will it hurt the PC version? That depends how smart the developer is and how much they put into the console version.
Besides this is Activision-Blizzard we're talking about, regardless of what PC gamers want, as long as there's a chance of making more money, this is going to happen.
Frank101me
Never played Diablo but if it hits PS3/Xbox i would definitly pick it up

I have grown tired of console exclusivity. I have nothing against Playstation 3 but I prefer my Xbox 360. I could spring for a second system but I figure what's the point since I'll probably end up playing my Xbox most of the time anyway (that's what happened with the last generation where I had a Playstation, Xbox and Gamecube.) I don't see the reason to get upset because it will be coming out on the consoles. Blizzard knows better than to cripple the PC version.
