Diablo 3 is the next Blizzard game hitting PC (hopefully) sometime next year, but according to an interview Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime had with MVC, the game may be coming to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles as well. I'll allow a second for the PC gamers reading this to go and punch a wall.
In the interview, Morhaime said, "We haven’t made any decisions yet, but a lot us feel that if ever there was a Blizzard franchise that could play well as a console game, then [Diablo's] probably it." We've known that Blizzard has been toying with the idea of Diablo 3 on the console for a while, as Morhaime noted on the subject during DICE and the company listed a job opening for a Senior Producer, Console for Diablo 3 in Feburary. Right now, they're still investigating if it could work on console, but with dungeon crawlers like Torchlight translating so well from the PC to the Xbox 360, I wouldn't be surprised if they took the leap.
I'm really upset by this news. PC gamers don't often get exclusive masterpieces which we can call our own like Playstation 3 users get Uncharted, or Xbox 360 users get Halo and Gears of War. I'm sure the minds at Blizzard will make Diablo 3 absolutely fantastic on consoles, but for me, I can't look forward to Diablo 3 coming out on a console for all to enjoy. As someone who played Final Fantasy XI on PC back in the day, a game that was constantly inhibited by "PS2 limitations" I'm terrified for what this means for Diablo 3.
This development has Acitivision written all over it.

Not really something to be sad about, maybe concerned about the devs concentrating too much on one platform and not on the other. PC will still get better resolutions than consoles anyway, but whether the console will be played on the keyboard/mouse (which I somewhat doubt -_-) is still a mystery. Coz' the thought of going through all the skills with a controller is rather baffling, maybe use the controller's keypad/board add-on as a macro? Either way, I don't mind playing either platforms but I'd probably favor the PC more.

I wouldn't worry about Diablo 3 being on consoles and hindering any kind of gameplay if anything the console versions will likely turn out better then the PC version but seriously I doubt if either gamer PC or console will care they'll just play the game. Me personally I'm not to big a fan of dungeon crawlers so I'll probably pass on this but it's nice that Bliz will release it on consoles for gamers that want to play.

im curious as to why microsoft sony and nintendo dont just work to gether to make one super console that you can upgrade like a pc. cause i can only see profit for them if they did because there would be a vast amount of games for people to buy and play and theres always the accessories that could go along with it that would boost sales even more and then no one would have to worry about whose best it would be more like "how can we make these even better?" lol but thats just me

I'm right there with you Leah, Blizzard has been making mistake after mistake since they were acquired by Activision and I can't help but feel this is one of those times. But as long as features/controls/multi-player isn't affected by this port then I don't care. But as soon as they say "We dropped this feature across the platforms because of X Console limitation I'll be raging on their forums. All we can do is sit back and wait (Seems the norm for blizzard games anyway)

Considering my PC was new when D3 was first announced, i'd rather have it for my PS3 than upgrade my pc!

In my personal opinion, The Diablo series has always been on the PC. People will buy it and not really be too in to the story line as those of us who have played Diablo since it's initial release back in '96, let alone know what's going on. It would be a HUGE jump in storyline and some might get too frustrated.

This isn't the first time blizzard has ventured into consoles, the original Diablo game has a ps1 version that plays almost identical to the pc version, they also put the original starcraft on n64 again it played almost identical to the pc version. My personal experience is to favor the pc verson. It boils down to personal preference, and since there are a few great games that are console exclusive, Why cant we as pc gamers be given atleast one or two great titles all to ourselves. I also own a PS3 but i would prefer to help justify my pc with something that anyone couldn't just say big whoop i have for the console, when we get the pc version of console games months later (ya it may sound a little selfish but to me it just seems fair)

First of all to be a pc gamer, is to be a part of a dying breed. Have you seen how many people play console games? MILLIONS. People play consoles obviously because it's cheaper and has a bigger community. It makes perfect sense to come to console. Blizzard is greedy. Why you say? WoW has been out for how long? and how much is it to play? How many expansions do they have and how much are they? How much does it cost just to race change and switch servers? It literally take no effort at all on their part to do that service, yet it costs so much. Why cant they be like the one thing rs got right... being able to move across servers freely. They are greedy and will do anything for a quick buck. Now I love diablo and it has been my most favorite game to play. People want to cry about the cost of computer gaming? Get a job and get out of your parents basement. The console community is all kids anyways. If i worked at g4 id say the exact thing. There are plenty of games for console gamers. What blizzard should do is IF it does come out for console, link it up with the battle.net servers. Just so the real players can put these wannabees in their place. I dare one of you all agree with me. Keep doing Whay you do leah and ignore these klowns. They don't know what it's like to be a true gamer. And never try to rant using an Evo, takes FOREVER

I am not worried about this at all. Number 1. Blizzard knows what they are doing. And Number 2. it would just be a gimped down version of Diablo III.

Yet Blizzard started out porting games to consoles and in the console market. Rock N Roll Racing ftw.
Anyway.. either way its a win/win. This whole console vs pc gaming thing is so stupid. I'm a gamer, I have a ps3, 360, a nice gaming pc and most of the time I go with the 360 as my platform of choice. But I have spent my fair share of cash on Steam since I picked up this pc.
But as I said.. I'm a gamer and I have the option to play games on the system I want to play it on. Almost every single person I know is botha pc AND console gamer.. I think if you're just one or the other, you're missing out.

well as long as its two different developments we will be fine. if they develop the PC version so it can be played for console then it will sucks (im looking at you DA2)
also, you do not need a high end computer to play games. i play on a laptop. its a gaming laptop yet, but not high end. $1000 and thats that. i play DAO, FONV, SC2, and a bunch of other RTS and RPG and some MMO games on it just fine. no i cannot turn every setting to UBERMAX, but at normal or slightly higher then normal everything plays just fine.
that said i will be building my own computer this summer, and its only gunna cost me $1200.

Well, it's not like the Diablo series has ever had much in the way of sophistication, so a console version would be fitting.

If you were implying FF11 was horrible, i agree.
The only way a console port is bad is if we don't all have the ability to play in the same games.
I don't know if the Activision comment was meant to be sarcastic, but you can't blame everything you don't like on them and give Blizzard all the credit for things you do like. Blizzard is capable of making their own decisions and, yes, they like money.

As long as the developers take time in making sure the game is good then it'll likely have a positive turnout. Same could be said for any game.

Leah, keep doing what you're doing! G4 already have so many console gamers (especially for the XBox 360) that we need someone like you in G4 to support PC games. It seems these console fanboys are ignorant of the numerous video game series that's been bastardized all thanks to developers creating it for the consoles. I will be happy for Diablo III to be on the consoles, if you fanboys advocate for XBox/PS3 exclusives to be release on the PC. So in the meantime, keep Diablo III exclusive for the PC, Blizzard!!!

I'm all for pc gaming, but I think it's awesome if it goes to the consoles.. None of my friends are pc gamers, due to the fact that pc gaming is expensive. Keeping up with tech ain't for everybody. I would much rather sit my lazy ass in front of my LCD on my couch and dungeon crawl with my friends on a console instead. This isn't going to kill the game, it's just going to make it for everybody to enjoy.. Quit your crying PC fanboys.

did anyone else play that lara croft; GOL download game last summer? first thing i thought when i saw thatnwas some one should use the engine to redo diablo 2. and from what ive seen from the vids for diablo 3 it dosent look like graphics wise it's too complex to be on a console. either way we all know this isn't comeing out for another year at least and by then we'll all have torchlight 2 on xbla/psn and theyll have missed there moment
