According to the video game industry analysts at the NPD Group, Call of Duty: Black Ops is now the top-selling video game ever released, pushing Wii Play down to number two in history. COD: Blops was the top-charting game in February, as it has been every month since it was released back in November.
There were fewer new game releases in February 2011 vs. February 2010, but those new releases were more productive, selling more on average than the new releases did last year.
The "winning" console of the month? The Xbox 360 which had its biggest non-holiday sales month ever, surpassing September 2007 when Halo 3 launched. The 250 GB system bundled with the Kinect sensor was one of the drivers of the increase in average selling price among console hardware. All three major console systems boasted a unit sales increase over last February, though.
NPD reports that sales of both hardware and software were strong in February compared to the previous year. The market was up 12% in dollar sales across hardware, software, accessories, and game cards, but handheld system sales were down versus February 2010 by 27%. The theory is, handheld console sales are down because everyone is waiting until both Nintendo and Sony release their next model take-a-longs. Next month, sales of the Nintendo 3DS will boost sales.

OK, the game play in MW and MW 2 is MUCH better than in Black Ops. Black Ops is a fun game, but too arcade like in multiplayer, where hits don't do damage (unless in hardcore mode). Seriously you double tap someone or wound them and they still can run and kill you?? BS. Also the instant knife kills are a bit ridiculous.
Not a fan of the graphics or maps on Black Ops either, Trey Arch needs to stick to zombies, I'm glad Infitnity Ward is back on task for MW3. And to the guy (tcs0) who prefers Black Ops multiplayer over MW series, whose main complaint is the hacked game rooms... you can thank Sony for that (controlling their security poorly). Sony didn't give the game developers the option to use punk Buster services like on the PC editions.
If you like better realistic graphics, shooting, bigger maps, and better game play - stick to the MW series. Black Ops is fun (from an arcade point of play) but for more realistic fighting MW series all the way.

My PS3 died with Blops stuck in the chamber. So go ahead, earn some xp while im not there to make you watch a bunch of killcams. No matter the game, I will serve you all a can. Oh, loco your crazy moms dog is the best.

i actually like black ops but this is because black ops is only the second call of duty game ive played.
mw2 was my first cod game and i didnt start playing it until february of 2010 so basically im new to the cod franchise. ive never played cod 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
but i see where you guys are coming from cause it is eerily similar to cod mw2.
black ops is broing me already, i want to play crysis 2 or homefront, and i definately wanna get BATTLEFIELD 3!!!!!

series will lose it's appeal if you keep spitting a new
1 out every year to make money on the name. (I'm not
a CoD-hater, so spare me the ignorant replies.)
But pushing that aside, it's good to see the
gaming industry continue it's rise. As much as I
like the continuation of some franchises, I hope a
continued profit for these companies in general
will spur on new titles like BioShock & Mass
Effect once were.
"Good" games sometimes don't get
recognition, but "great" games will never be held back.
Here's to the continuation of the games we love, but
not at the expense of their appeal & especially not at
expense of the games we never knew we'd love even more.

Ok people Black Ops is a good game I don't think it is the best in history nor should it get the credit of best selling game ever, it's not that good. But it is not the same game, what you are asking for will never happen! you are all asking for a completely new game that is barely recognized as a COD game. That is not going to happen because then you will all be complaining that it's terrible and it's not the COD we love. Black ops add's plenty to be distinguished from MW2. Zombies(from WAW), Wager matches, a strong story, whole new multiplayer unlock system, new weapons, better balance(Still not perfect), All new time period never before in an FPS(as i know of). If you are saying it is the same game, you have NOT played it, or just want to be oblivious to the changes.

Black Ops should not be the best selling game in history.
I dont own BLOPS but I have played it. That being said, Ive also played Bulletstorm, and if I had to choose between the two to purchase, I would choose Bulletstorm.

Can you also entitle COD: Black OPS the highest lag fest ever too? All those sales, and Activision will not invest any money into their servers to make the players experience a good one. I think it's safe to say that their only money maker is going to hit chump change on development soon, just to ensure the only product Activision is going to have soon, makes money for them. I have a feeling Activision spent more money on advertising COD then they did on the development of the game. Proof is in the pudding, and if I recall correctly Black Ops project manager call consumers douche-bags because gamers tweeted about the launch faults, and he just didn't like being criticized for Treyarch's incompetence. It's nice that G4 and many other critics found the game to be amazing, but the controlled environment they were placed in, to allowed them to review the game never raised a flag about the potential lack of quality? Would you rate the game today as you did in your controlled environment? If you say yes they you are truly a liar, or you just feel you need to standby your decision.
So how many copies were sold? I have yet to see the numbers, and I doubt COD: Black Ops has sold more copies than the original Mario Bro's. I know it came packed in with the Nintendo, but I'm sure the price for the game was included.

This is surprising. COD is hugely popular and even the casual gamers I know play COD. If it wasn't for zombies I would have skipped Black Ops but I'm a sucker for that zombie mode.

That's what happening when the hall gaming season is considered by developers as not profitable, bad sales& no1 even tryed to take a risk,all winter was epty of really good games,ofcourse people got this 6th part of cod because ,it was the only high budget game since the end of fall 2010 ,dead space is a horror ,not very popular genre,and even copies of this game were salled more then 1,5 mln times

I myself will not be buying whatever Madden, err, i mean COD game comes out this year. I'm simply too burned out on COD. Which is why I'm giving Homefront a try when it comes out next week.

Gamers are a diverse group, just as people who listen to music, or watch films, or read books. I'm sure not everyone will agree with the top selling albums or books or films, it's about preference of the masses. Best selling doesn't mean greatest game ever, it means the majority of people who play games decided to buy this because they like it or they play it online with friends.
Don't mix best selling, with game of the year.

I hate this game. I do own it but thats just because I can't sell it for SHI. I didn't even bother to beat it on vertan like I did the others and I on;y got to level 55 online and I havent poped it back in since. There are just to many lag switchers and modders and hackers on this thing. Just watch your kill cam youll see what I mean.

Thats sad this game sold that high. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT IT. All it is, is another shooter, nothing special about it

I played the demo and was not impressed in the least, was actually disappointed but what do you expect from a franchise that belongs to someone else anyway. Give up already ActiBlizz, you can never match the games that came before.
