Wizards of the Coast have revealed the first details about Magic: The Gathering -- Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 for Xbox Live, PC, and PlayStation Network, as well as the Magic: The Gathering 2012 Core Set trading card game. The sequel to 2009's Duels of the Planeswalkers will introduce new game modes, Planeswalker opponents, decks, puzzles, and more.
“We are thrilled with the success of Magic: The Gathering and the tremendous growth of our player community worldwide,” said Wizards of the Coast president Greg Leeds. “Smart, strategic and competitive gamers love to get together to battle and have fun using their intellectual strengths. With more than 12 million players and fans in more than 70 countries and 500,000 units of Duels of the Planeswalkers sold on XBLA, Magic is experiencing record growth and delivering players a truly integrated gaming experience across both digital and real world.”
To find out more about Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, we spoke with Magic: The Gathering brand manager Paul Levy. Check out our interview for all the details.
Wizards of the Coast will be demoing the Archenemy game mode, which lets three players team up against one AI controlled archenemy, at PAX East this weekend, so if you plan on attending and want to get a sneak peek, head over to the Magic: The Gathering booth (#648).

To be honest I was pretty happy with the first. I understand why they don't let us fully customize our decks. We have to remember that they're a company and the game has to be handle like a business.
However, I still think they should give us at least a little more control in our decks. I'm fine with getting premade decks, I'm fine with only having a limited number of cards to customize with. But please, at least let us switch out cards in the deck we feel less desirable and replace them with the more powerful cards. This would create a lot more variety and assist the weaker premade decks, I'm sick of seeing Eyes of Shadow decks.
I've been playing Magic the Gathering since Scourge and I'll always love the game. If they made this simple change I would definitely be willing to dish out $60.00 for it.

allow deck customization, or i will not be buying this. Are you reading this WOTC developers? the first Duel was fun for about 2 weeks, until I used all the decks and couldn't even inlclude a playable amount of land...
At least some... nothing worse than unlocking cards not being able to remove terrible cards... or worse, having a 67 card deck with 20 lands...

i played the card game for a little while, Mirrodin through Alara (first block only) then stopped. i recently got this game on PSN, and while its kind of fun, its just not as fun as the card game itself. esp when its a deck your given instead of making yourself which really ruins the fun imo. as other ppl have said, they would have to get some major improvements, one of them being deck customization for me to buy this.

...have to add to the last post...
60 card deck, in the beginning of the game you'd scan in your 60 and then the AI does the rest (shuffling, etc)

Can we just get Magic combo with the idea they had for "Eye of Judgement"?
I mean then you can sell hella cards AND scanners. Then we could have Magic tourneys live via Xbox/PS3 (and the wii if you really want to i guess) When the new core set comes out start putting a little code strip on the bottom of em, easy and so much money to be made right?

This wasn't in the last game, not that it was bad but not being to create your own deck is what makes any card collecting game truly great. Sure you can still have premades but let the people create their own unstoppable master deck instead of being forced to not being able to change the weak cards out.
Sure you could add 1-15 extra cards but not being to change out the others is limited enjoyment. Give the fans what they want this time

The heck with magic. It's all about yugioh.

I have spent more time than I care to mention playing the XBLA game and have purchased the expansions. There are a couple problems that I will not overlook if they want more of my money.
1. Horrible card dealing/shuffling. I'm either getting all the land or my buddy is. The AI can literally destroy you in a few turns when you keep getting the same cards dealt to you. This makes the game no fun to play.
2. Stop taking cards away from me that I have unlocked in game. My Claws of Vengeance deck lost all of my unlocked cards, TWICE!!!
3. Why does it have to crash when you get the advantage and pown somebody?
These should be simple things to address. If there is progress I will be happy to dish out more money.

I mostly liked the first game.. but it was full of bugs, some of which still aren't fixed, and they never sent me the promo card I was promised, and it got really frustrating being an early-adopter on the xbox and having to wait longer for expansions than steam players. This new release is going to need to have some serious improvements to tempt me to buy it.

i hope i can keep my expansion decks from the first one

im surprised they havent tried to come up with some kind of mmo yet..but how that would work i have no idea..

only way i will get this one is if we can actually customize our deck
and ya i saw the decks part i hope that means customizing

Excellent. I loved the first XBLA game, and I'm an avid player of the card game, so this is nothing but good news. I'm very interested to see what new modes they include, besides archenemy.
