Sony Is Using Its PlayStation Network To Build A New Online ServiceDo not be alarmed: The PlayStation Network is down, but it's routine maintenance. The system will be down from Wednesday, March 9, 8:00 AM, Pacific Time Down Time until Wednesday, March 9, 7:00 PM, Pacific Time. That's a full 11 hours of no PSN for you PS3 and PSP users.

During this time you may:

  • Not be able to access the PlayStation Store
  • Have difficulty signing in to the PlayStation Network
  • Not be able to play online games
  • See a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation Network

When you log into the PlayStation Network, a message may appear which states, "the PlayStation Network has been suspended".  This doesn't mean your account has been suspended; it means the PlayStation Network has been taken offline.

I'm obviously hoping the PlayStation Network will re-open with tons of amazing improvements, new content and a free latte for all users, but right now, we have no information as to what (if any) changes are on the way. So, until tonight at 7 PM, PST, go ride your bike or something.

Sony s online service has been down since Wednesday as a result of an external intrusion, with reports later emerging that the downtime may have been due to a firmware hack that allowed folk to pirate PSN content using fake credit card numbers.

External Intrusions + Anonymous Hackers = Network Maintenance

Thorough Investigations + Smooth Secure Operations = 3 Days of Complete Misery

My Question: "Is A Boot On The Foot Worth 2 In The Balls?"

An update to this is as follows.

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

That is straight from the playstation blog.

Is this what it has come down to for companies to start takeing real action against hackers.

Great! Just another reason for 360 fans to talk shh-- I'd like to think, aside from all the BS going on right now with the network, that they would have just brought both networks to collaborate so this way ps3 haters could get what they deserve. "A hella good a s s whoopin." I would pay any price to play out these XBOX wanna-b's in BLAK OPS anyday, oh! and LB's for noobs. "Now that's where the money is really at.." Nowadays, both networks are listening and keeping a very close eye on things so spread the word and progress the process. What i mean is "Spread the message and start the movement." Anyways, doesn't having made 1 game defeat the purpose of having to play it on 2 totally different systems.. P.S. Who gives a what!!!- what caused the NETWORK FAILURE, just as long as they fix it and it doesn't happen again.

It might just be me, but I swear that my download speeds from the PSN store and updates for existing games are much more faster now. Perhaps the 11 hours they took were for more than just adding PS+ cloud saves. I do find it kinda hard to grasp that a planned upgrade could take 11 hours, they would have used this time to also upgrade other outdated components so that they do not need to bring down the PSN again for such an upgrade in the near future.

Can others please confirm if download speed are indeed quicker from the PSN Store?
