The new version of Mortal Kombat will feature the bloody, brutal fatalities and fast-paced action fans of the genre know and love, but it's not old news by any stretch. The game will also feature the 300-level Challenge Tower, a new mode that puts a crapload of mini-games at your disposal. Here's how video game preview-writing legend Stephen Johnson describes it:
"Challenge Tower is the just-announced single-player mode for Mortal Kombat 2011 that places you at the center of 300 fast-paced challenges, essentially mini-games for MK. You travel up the pyramid, passing tougher and tougher tests until you eventually obtain total Kombat victory -- Winning! The GDC build of the game featured the first 20 challenges, which include relatively easy tasks like defeating an opponent with only kicks (because your arms have been torn off), but hint at the more dangerous challenges further up the deadly triangle, like defending yourself against a horde of murderous zombies."
