A pitcher, a comic book artist and a D&D novelist walk into a bar... and out comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, a new single-player RPG designed by a dream team (Todd McFarlane, R.A. Salvatore and lead designer Ken Rolston of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion fame) of creators. We finally got our first look in this Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning preview at GDC, but if the above screenshot doesn't wet your whistle, try this:
What's most interesting is how Reckoning takes the best parts of modern day RPGs (Dragon Age, Diablo and Fable) to craft a familiar, yet deep and exciting game world. Players can leverage "sagecrafting" to slot gems into equipment to bestow bonuses like flaming swords, gather dynamically generated loot, or chain magical and physical attacks seamlessly. In addition, the world isn't leveled, so players are free to roam wherever and will simply be turned back by tougher foes.
Got your attention yet? It should, so get some more out of our early look Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning preview.

Todd has had quite a few gaming adventures, there has been atleast 3 Spawn games over the years, but what does that matter?
He is only art director, meaning, he gives the yes or no on appearances, concepts, and instructs the artists on how he thinks things should look. There should be no arguement that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to art :P
blueboykc
how is this a "blockbuster" when its not even close to being released?

Correction: Todd Mcfarlane has had some gaming experience actually. But that's only with making the character Necrid for Soul Calibur and making his own game "McFarlane's Evil Prophecy" in 2004, which was terrible.
And I agree with general with zombietroy. I think the greater issue here is that more and more game developers have been toning down games for the casual gamer audience. It's getting harder and harder in recent years for the hardcore gamers to still find their fix.

It sounds pretty bold for them to try and go with a non-leveled world. The only RPG I know that's pulled that off successfully was the Monster Hunter series. But even in that regard, it's more of an action RPG than it is a standard RPG (considering the fights are more about timing your attacks and dodges).
Can't say I'm interested in the "dream team" though. Ken Rolston can stay, but what do the others know? Todd Mcfarlane has never had anything to do with video games or role playing. He's got comic books, sports, music videos, but still no gaming experience. And as for R.A. Salvatore, as rochin said, he has been kicking around a dead horse. His Drizzt series has gone down hill since every major hero or heroine in the story is strapped all the way down to their toes in plot armor. I finally got sick and tired of it after the Hunter's Blade Trilogy. That's the fifth trilogy mind you! And nothing has stopped them yet?
Replace R.A. Salvatore and give me some Paul S. Kemp instead. Everyone knows that guy deserves it more.

I would like to see a game with an ACTUAL death cost. Either straight hardcore, or you lose an ENTIRE level maybe two if you die. Too many times, it's too easy to just respawn come back, respawn come back...etc...

So does it have a new concept or is it just a rip off of the above mentioned games? Salvatore has been kicking his dead horse to way beyond death lately, so hopefully there will be some thing new that he is going to bring.
