According to an article in The Guardian, European customs officers are being told to seize shipments of Playstation 3 consoles after the Korean company LG won a preliminary injunction against Sony in a patent war regarding the blu-ray tech in the PS3. All PS3 consoles entering Europe will be seized for the next ten days. Apparently thousands of PS3s were seized by customs officers in the Netherlands.
While Sony is trying to get the restriction lifted, LG could apply to have the ban extended. The Guardian explains that LG could even go so far as to have all of these PS3s destroyed, but they don't think that will happen. If Sony is found to have breached LG's patents, they might have to pay LG for each PS3 it has sold around the world, and that's a lot of money.
Stockpiles of Playstation 3 consoles in Europe could dry up within a few weeks in Europe if the ban is not lifted.

Sony is a very corrupt company they have this coming for how they screwed over Nintendo not to mention all the other people they screwed over its just a real shame that all the sony ps3 owners are suffering for it

meh billionares duking it out sometimes u have to get a little dirty to stay on top. Sony and LG are both doing this. I could care less people in europe can last for 10 days if they haven't gotten a ps3 since this then they probably won't get one in the near future. Also I don't think anyone in europe cares for this story anyway. Plus it's not like its a "major" hit on Sony either so i don't get all ur comments for basically saying "Sony is done"
rifleshoot
One article that puts Sony in a bad light and all the Microsoft fanboys come out to post negative comments and dislike any comment supporting Sony.

So, Sony is battling Hackers for doing supposedly damage to them, and now LG is sueing Sony for stealing from them, thats what you get Sony, you damn thieves lol.

LG had nothing to do with BLU-RAY development!!! The argument is over the I/O (Input/Output) standard that Sony is using in the PS3. LG claims to have developed the process Sony uses to transfer data from the DRIVE to the system board. If a judge sides with LG in this case, and LG can prove that their data transfer process was patented prior to the mass production of the PS3, it could cost Sony some cash. If a judge was to make them pay per system, then I feel 3 cents per unit would be a fair reimbursement for damages. LG is not know for quality, and they do claim they don't develop anything, the just make it better (Worse and over priced).

This reminds me of The Social Network. LG=Winklevoss twins.

sony should have saw this coming that always happens to big companies that sell millions of every product yearly...i really was looking forword in buying a move for KILLZONE 3 and LITTLE BIG PLANET 2...ILL just have to wait and see
cardinalsfan1122
There is no way LG waited way too long to file. The PS3 has been out for what 2-3 years now. if they go to court Sony will win, but this will probably be settled out of court.

Sucks for Europe. I feel sorry for them.

Oh Sony, don't you learn. First it was the PC tech demos at E3 05 and now it's stolen patents for the system? Damn. Sony is already losing money on the PS3. With these next 10 days Europe won't be making any profit for Sony.

LG makes half-assed phones and their customer service is no better. I bought an LG GW620 phone and found out days later that it was a terrible mistake. It does not support an Android OS greater than 1.5 plus the thing is prone to freezing and crashing, memory card detection issues and whatnot. Now LG wants a piece of Sony's cake. I hate LG and everything it stands for. Send it to North Korea and nuke the hell out of that company along with the rest of them communist trash.

This is a cut and paste from www.makeuseof.com.
Blu Ray Technology History Who Created It?
The creation of the blue laser diode required for this technology is attributed to Shuji Nakamura, a professor in the College of Engineering at UCSB. Sony (along with Pioneer) took this work and came up with prototypes that were unveiled at the CEATEC exhibition in 2000. In 2002, Blu-ray Disc Founders was founded, and they announced the Blu-ray project.
So why the heck is LG suing them This makes no sense. Unless the players themselves have some component produced by LG that is included in the blue ray section of the PS3's.
Somebody at sony is going to pay for this boo boo.I can say this Sony won't pay up easily.
kentla57
Well here we go again. Sony needs better lawyers that is for sure. I appears that sony ripped off LG of it blueray patents. It looks like sony is just going to have to pay LG. How about the blue ray players in the PSP's as well? $$$$$$$ Makes the world go square or whatever.

"LG could even go so far as to have all of these PS3s destroyed" Xbox Fans around the world are praying this happens lol.
OK just to be clear I have both I prefer the 360 just saying.
DeadSkies
So, how come nobody's mentioned that LG's allegations are completely Fraudulent?
Tais Akasha
Just to make it clear, Sony might have been early out with blu ray players (i.e. the Sony BDZ-S77 and Sony BDP-S1 and the PS3) but Sony did not make the blu ray technology...quite afew companies were involved in it, including LG. Which i know, just makes the whole thing the more weirder
