Countdown Clock Hints To Modern Warfare 3 Reveal

UPDATE - NOVEMBER 8, 2011: MW3 Countdown to launch has begun; so check out your official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launch guide right now.

UPDATE 2: An Activision Spokesperson released a statement on the dogtag story, "There seems to be a great deal of speculation about the next Call of Duty project. Let me be clear that we are not revealing yet. Anything indicating otherwise is a hoax." This statement is vague to say the least. Activision did not confirm or deny  anything; of course they aren't revealing yet, it's a countdown clock. I do think it was interesting they said "project." Last May Sledgehammer Games was working on an action-adventure game set in the CoD universe. Could this be that title? Or is this an elaborate hoax?

UPDATE: Dogtags have been sent to various gaming sites. The dogtags belong to Lt. General Shepherd, who died at your hands in MW2. The back of the tags say "End the War" and direct back to findmakarov.com. Activision has not taken responsibility for the tags.

A countdown clock has appeared on a website called FindMakarov.com that many believe is counting down until Modern Warfare 3's official announcement. However, there's another camp of gamers who don't think MW3 will be announced just yet and believe the clock will reveal new CoD: Black Ops content.

Allow me to explain why I think Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be announced in 4 days, 20 hours, 12 minutes and 7 seconds. That is, if it's not a hoax.

Call of Duty is on an annual schedule, so it is not a surprise that Modern Warfare 3 is coming. Activision divides development duty amongst different studios. In the past Infinity Ward took care of the even numbered CoD games, CoD 4: Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 and Treyarch took the odds, Call of Duty: World at War and Cod: Black Ops. We already know that since the Fall of Duty, events Infinity Ward needed help developing MW3 and multiple studios were being brought in to finish the game on time. We know CoD: MW3 is coming, but we don't usually see CoD announcements this soon in the year.

This time, though, it's different. First off, Vladimir Makarov is the leader of a Ultra-nationalist terrorist cell and the main baddie in CoD: MW2. At the end of MW2 Makarov's whereabouts are unknown, and it is assumed he went into hiding. But more so than the obvious connection to Makarov, the real reason I believe this is a MW3 announcement is I think Activision wants to rain on Battlefield 3's parade. The legal battle between the ex-heads of Infinity Ward and Activision now involves EA. In the latest legal filing Activision claims West and Zampella conspired with EA to help their game Battlefield: Bad Company 2, have an edge over their main competitor. Wouldn't it be sweet payback to announce their game during GDC when Battlefield 3 will be on display?

There is the possibility this is actually a hoax and not for Call of Duty at all. I'm a half-glass full of bullets kind of person so I choose to believe this is legit.

What do you think the clock is for?

alright look this is infinity ward making this game but u know how they got sued and they cant make anymore cod games. there smart they are joined with other compaines to make the cod game.the law says infinty ward cant make cod games not everybody cant make cod games.so they joined other companies so they could make mw3. plus if they make this game it will have man graphics and and the campain will be sick.also i know that activison isnt making this game because they stick to the past day not the present days activison cant just stick at an old day then go straight to a modern day game.they need to stick to there roll.

All you kids do is complain all the time when a game is not exactly what you want. Well all of those that are complaining I guarantee that none of you know how to make a game, unless you actually know how hard it is to make a game you all need to shut up and grow up, stop complaining. And if you don't buy the game that's fine because I know I won't have to deal with as many scrubs like I do in every other game I play.

I'm not going to say that I'm done with the Call of Duty franchise, but I have grown nigh to becoming uninterested in the series. CoD Black Ops has nearly bored me to tears. It's getting a little old to still have some of the same problems that have bugged the CoD multiplayer for quite some time: lack of balance; incredibly small maps; too few maps (sorry, but the DLC schtick isn't cutting it); and, poor hosting issues. Unless the new Call of Duty intends to (FINALLY) answer the cry of thousands of console players (give us dedicated servers), then I agree it will simply be more of what's come before. And that's sad, really.

If MW3 don't use the same or upgraded engine from MW2 I'm not buying. The Black Ops engine was a joke. I'll rent before I purchase the next COD.

Even if it's not a new game, I don't think I will buy any CoD games for a while. I was happy that BO made it to the wii because I don't have any other system at the moment (yay being broke -_-''') The only ones that I will buy is BO and MW2 when ever I do get a PS3 or Xbox360. Other than that, I'm CoD out.
