Rumor: Hack-Proof PS3 In Development

PlayStation 3

Sony is developing an unhackable PS3 according to a rumor from EverythingHQ. Another circulating rumor is current PS3 models will undergo a massive price drop. Many are speculating the price drop would take place in order to clear out the current stock of PS3s so Sony could unveil the new hack-proof PS3.

Anonymous sources have told EverythingHQ Sony is already "deep into developing a hack-proof PS3 system." Sony is certainly aware of how easy it is to bypass the PS3's current security settings due to the hacking group fail0verflow and How-To videos like the one GeoHot is being sued over.

The unnamed sources have also released details about the alleged PS3's specs. "The hack-proof SKU will be a slim PlayStation 3 model and will contain a 300GB hard drive as an incentive to purchase the hack-proof system – the price of the SKU will be £186.99."

Do you think this rumor has merit? It would make sense for Sony to release a PS3 that won't be subject to the current model's security issues.

Wow there going to start all over again? Like i have read when you claim its Unhackable the hackers will hack it no matter how long it will take. I mean they said that about the Ps3 how long ago and now look what they did.

G4TV, how are you trusting this source?!?! They barely have 5 articles, and the about page on the website hasn't even been edited yet, and the website layout looks like they used MS Paint... come on G4!

You'd think they'd realize calling something 'hack-proof' is only going to make people want to hack the system even more, just for the challenge. And I doubt it'll even be a real challenge.

Thats exactly what they said about the PS3 when it first came out. As many have said nothing is hack proof. If a hacker (as they are using) is protecting it, they have to know that there is always a back door to all software to get in and do any changes. Thats something very software needs, so yes is hackable.

I will bet a $1000 right now that hackers will have it cracked within 24 hours of its release. Sony does it for money, Hackers do it as a passion. You will never beat smart people with passion by using people who are just there to collect a paycheck. Sony doesn't even realize that if they had kept their mouth shut, and didn't bring so much attention to PS3 hacking to begin with, most people wouldn't even bother. But when you start telling people that you can't do something, they are going to try anyway. And maybe if you didn't allow game producers to produce crappy games that cost $60 and you didn't nickel and dime your consumer with DLC garbage, weak expansions that felt like it should have been part of the original game, and other crap that makes you pull out your credit card in order to get more fun out of a $60 game that you dominate in 5 hours, hacking wouldn't be such an "epidemic". Add the fact that when you shell out a rediculous amount of money for the hardware that under the licence agreement, you DON'T EVEN OWN. And these theives get upset when you try to save yourself from bankrupsy without having to give up what you like. And somehow, the poorest end of the stick ends up being the "bad guy".

Horrible source is horrible. That site has 5 articles, all with about as much substance as the local high school rumor.

Are you aware that you are sourcing a blog that was created for the sole purpose to write that particular article and claim an anonymous source just to have it approved on N4G? Chances that it's fabricated is very likely. That very same blog is claiming Microsoft donated to GeoHotz two days after being created and claims "a source close to the matter who must remain anonymous" to get it approved on N4G, which it didn't because it was marked as fake.

You should be careful where you get your news from. Click on the "about" link.

"This is an example of a WordPress page, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. You can create as many pages like this one or sub-pages as you like and manage all of your content inside of WordPress."

Yeah, says a lot about the site doesn't it?

I just wonder how long it's gonna take to Hack the "Hackproof"... hours, days, a week. If Sony make it even close to a month without it being hacked i would be impressed.

Not gonna buy it, but still...interesting.
