The more we see of Trion’s upcoming MMO RIFT, the more intrigued we become. Our resident MMO connoisseur Leah Jackson is particularly excited about the game, and is now even more so after having spent some time checking out Rift’s end game raiding system. I can’t say I blame her, though, because the raid balancing is rather unique and is designed specifically to push players to work together:
"The more people who are helping, the harder the encounter becomes. The way the developers have combated griefing and ninjalooting is that only the people in the group that opened the Rift will receive proper loot, whereas the helpers will just receive some tokens and cash. It’s a refreshingly original concept that lends itself to a lot of cooperative play, as well as a fun end game experience."

I'll be playing this game at least until SWTOR comes out. While it's not revolutionary, it does bring many of the finer points of several games and puts them in one package.
The class system is unique in the way typical classes can augment their builds to perform several roles in a pinch, such as the rogue tanking Rifstalker and the healing Mage Chloromancer.
You have all the standards such as crafting, titles, achievements, faction grinds, dungeons, raids and questing. If you get bored with questing (and lets face it theres only so much you can do with questing options) you can join up and fight rifts.
Some people complain about the graphics, and I can see their point, but but they are easily much better than WoW's low poly count cartoony graphics.

The name reminds me of AION. I mean because when you play AION a RIFT opens to take you to the opposite race. Its a fun game so i am hoping this one is the same.

Not so sure what everyone is referring to with the graphics....they are ok at best and the Diablo overhead gets really tiring after awhile. The combat system is lame and needs work also the tutorial needs to be a lot longer, due to the ridiculous/ confusing nature of the class structure in the game. Also P2P is dead shown by the downward spiral of WoW user base leaving slowly and many games changing to F2P. I give it 3 months (5 months max) before the game is reworked and made to be F2P.

I don't see how this promotes cooperative play if only the person who opens the rift gets the loot. Why would a bunch of random people want to jump in and help take down a hard mob knowing they wont get any good loot? I personally would rather open my own rift.
It would be better if they drop 2 sets of loot, one for the person that opens the loot, and another set of loot for everyone else that jumps in to help. I believe that would more likely to encourage others to jump in the fight and help out.

Can't say enough about this game. Ridiculously fun and the graphics are just to die for. Haven't logged into WoW since the first day of this week long beta. And the night before I just logged in to mail my char/server info to my friends so they can find me on Rift! lol
One thing I would like in the future is more physical differences among the races. The elves look nice on both factions, though.

DC Universe??? What??? How can you call that an MMO. It's a brawler with multiplayer. A boring one too. I really love how all the end game content is just you redoing old missions with harder enemies. That game is garbage. Rift is a real MMO.

I've been enjoying it, generally speaking it fixes many of the problems I've had with previous MMOs.
