Batman: Arkham City will not feature an online multiplayer mode. In fact the game won't have any multiplayer or co-op modes and will only have a single-player experience. When designing the sequel to 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum Rocksteady Studios Game Director, Sefton Hill told IGN, "If we use all of the energy that is required to create multiplayer and instead focus this on the single player, would that deliver a better overall game?"
Batman: Arkham City is now reaching its final stages of development. Hill is positive that Batman: AC wouldn't be the game they hoped to create if they had divided their efforts between both a single player and multiplayer experience. According to Hill, multiplayer is a common and often unnecessary add-on to games. It can also extend a game's lifespan and add to replayability. Hill hopes gamers will see they made the right choice once they beat Arkham City.
In my opinion some games like BioShock 2 and even Uncharted 2 didn't need a multiplayer mode to be a complete gaming experience. Batman: Arkham Asylum was a fantastic game that did well critically despite not offering multiplayer gameplay. Do you think not adding multiplayer will help or hurt Batman: AC? Are you as crushed as I am there won't be a Batman and Robin co-op mode?

All I care about is an awesome gaming experience with Frank Conroy's Batman and Mark Hamill's Joker, if it requires no MP so the developers can focus on the single player campaign then do it. I want Mark Hamill's farewell to the Joker to be epic!

I have to say this is a great move by Rocksteady studio to stick by their guns and give us an awesome single player experience. Why would you need multiplayer mode when there is one already built in. Time trials were awesome in the first game and will be awesome in the second.
This is the Zelda of the generation. They made the wheel now just tweak it to go faster.

Smart move. Some games make good use of the feature but it doesn't need to be in every single game. It often detracts from the single player mode and fragments the audience when there are so many games out there. I often don't even bother with multiplayer due to my backlog, gotta get to the next game rather than spend more than a week on the old one.

Rocksteady is making the right decision and focusing on what made the first game awesome, though i wouldn't mind co-op in a game like this when you have so many dc characters you could choose from. I'll still be buying the game anyways though.

At least someone is not a sellout

good focus all on the single player and make this a epic game i look forward to playing it

I know I definitely appreciate it when I start achievement hunting after I complete the game. Besides, most of the games that I delve into multiplayer with just deconstructs the fun of the single player game if it isn't completely removed from the mechanics of that said experience. So, yeah, I'm pumped. :)

glad to hear it
i cant keep count of how many single player game experiences have suffered at least a little because some of the focus was side tracked into adding a multiplayer mode

YAY!! So go to see that some developers realize more people doesn't alway mean more fun. Batman works best as a lone hero battling thugs in dark rooms. Rocksteady gets this.

GOOD a real single player game with no multiplayer works for me 100%.. I usually only play single player games..

This doesn't change my mind a bit. I hate it when companies tack on this kind of stuff that is not needed. People that play online multiplayer already have a million titles on their shelf ( 99% of which have empty gaming lobbies ).
Instead of worrying about added features, re-create what you did with the first Batman title and give us an awesome experience. To hell with Robin - Spend this extra time polishing the other features of the single player experience.

YAY! glad to here that Rocksteady is not giving in to the MP craze. it is not needed for every game out there. sometimes. you just want to play with yourself.

I agree that Batman doesn't need Multiplayer...
How the heck would it work? It wouldn't be as fun as single player and the only REASON to force Multiplayer into a good game like Batman is so you can create an 'online pass' to charge people for to get money out of used game sales.
I am honestly kind of surprised that AC:Brotherhood's Multiplayer was as fun as it was. But again to me the singleplayer was outstanding!

Good I'm so glad I tire of games with multiplayer, that don't necessarily need it; Batman: Arkham Asylum was all about the single player mode and the challenge mode. In the case of Uncharted 2, no it did not need a multi-player component but the co-Op mode was very much welcome. Basically it's about finding whats best for a game, if you want to add an extra component. If devs want that extra Umph! for their game they should think outside the box, think of something new that fits their project, their baby. They could just go with something else, I would've liked a Uncharted challenge mode over a Multi-player.

What is with this attitude that suddenly all games NEED multiplayer? No, they don't. There are tons of multiplayer games out there already, so one more *not* having it isn't going to make any difference. If you want to play as Batman in a multiplayer environment, then head on over to DC Universe Online.
Anyone who refuses to buy this game because it won't have multiplayer is a tool, plain and simple.

A game like this does not need that stuff, i am actually happy knowing this now cause it reassures me that the single player (only reason id want it) will get all attention and love it should get. Besides.....Robin is lame and i would never wish the lameness of playing as him in co-op on my worst enemies. He sucks that bad : D
GaurdianAngel822
Absolutely not! The first game was fantastic and it became popular in gamer's eyes without the need for a multiplayer function. I mean, as long as Rocksteady makes everything we loved about the first better and added some pretty sweet new features, it'll still be at the top of my list. I agree that Bioshock had no reason to have a Multiplayer, but I rather enjoyed Naughty Dog experimenting with Uncharted 2. It just seemed to work and it surprised me!

Thank F-ing GOD!!! Don't care if anyone thinks it might have been good. This MP craze needs to die.

wasn't buying to begin with

Multiplayer in Uncharted 2 didn't make it worse, but it also didn't make it better. Bioshock 2 wasn't that great without the multiplayer. Adding it in just added to the mediocre experience. I think Rocksteady made the right choice by keeping B:AC a single player experience. CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!!
