Assassin's Creed Getting Online Multiplayer Via

Ubisoft plans to release a new installment in its Assassin’s Creed franchise sometime before March 31, 2012. And, no, it is not Ubisoft's previously announced Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy 3D coming to the Nintendo 3DS.

As CVG reports, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said during an investor call today that more details will be revealed in May, but he was willing to say that the next AC would be a “packaged title,” and it will be released “this year.” When asked for clarification, a Ubisoft rep told me Guillemot was referring to Ubisoft’s next fiscal year, not the 2011 calendar year.

This may in fact mean we will see a new AC by year’s end, since this period extends from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012, however Ubisoft said back in July that AC would be taking a breather in 2011, so I guess we’ll see.

Honestly, I would be shocked (if pleasantly surprised) if Ubisoft decided to officially announce in May that AC3 was coming out this holiday season (all previous console AC titles have released in November), a mere seven months before the end of the year, but crazier things have happened. I mean, Stephen Johnson just went downstairs to get a salad. Everything is permitted!

In other AC news, Ubisoft also announced today that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood has now sold over 6.5 million units. Well done there.

Do you think we'll see AC3 this year, or next?

2012 is a ways off so we may be ready for another at that time. The difference here is that Ubi can release a good game. Activision cannot. There's always the likelihood of delays too just in case they feel the same time each year IS a bit too soon.

like most others are saying, if its a completely new AC (meaning not Ezio) then ya ill be happy to see it out this year BUT i have no problem waiting until next year if it means its going to be more polished. i want AC3 to be the same improvement over AC2 that AC2 was to AC1. on top of that, with all the games coming out this year, i probably wouldnt pick AC3 up until next year anyways. so take your time and make it even better!

I think AC was originally intended to be a trilogy, of course they didn't expect it to be successful enough to withstand CoD and still sell a lot. Now I think they understand how much of a great series they have. Expect a new game every year.

if they are smart they release it in early 2012... but if you dont count brotherhood they had 2 years to make a new engine so they might be okay. Next game will be in revolutionary France if the end of the brotherhood confused you.

I'm open to AC3 being the final installment (as long as they have a good ending with all questions answered), but it would be equally as awesome for more issues.

I can haz moar AC please?

I think Ezio's story is done in the main series. Plenty of options for the next game but I hope they head a little closer to present day so we can have some new technology. France in the 1700s?
