The Xperia Play, the device formerly known as the PSP Phone, will be out this March. The smart phone has an HD screen on top and a PlayStation controller on the bottom. Despite not being able to see them, on the photo above Sony assures gamers the phone has trigger buttons too. Keep reading for more details on the phone and launch titles.
The phone, confirmed for March, will launch with over 50 games. Sony showed off some of the impressive titles like Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero, and Dead Space but did not confirm they would be released in the launch window. Nor did they confirm if these titles would be new games or ports of the existing titles. At least one “legendary” PlayStation game will come with the phone.
Sony didn't announce a price despite announcing a "launch window" for March. Verizon will be distributing service to Xperia Play this spring in North America.
Do you think the Xperia Play will compete with the Nintendo 3DS, both are being released in March. And is anyone else sick of the term "launch window," just tell us when it comes out!

Hopefully this won't turn out like the N-Gage. I personally won't be getting it, since I'm with AT&T and happy with my iPhone 4, but it's caught my attention.

So for short, will people call it the... X Play?

Another bad choice on sony's part. The PSP2 is to close and will kill this idea off.. Welcome to Engage 2.. ANOTHER EPIC FAIL!...
This will go the route of the PSPGO

Compete with the 3DS? hah! SOny is already planning to release the NGP within the next year so it's more likely that they'll be competing with themselves! besides 3DS actually does something new rather than rehash the same old stuff. no way is it going to lose...

Compete with the 3DS? That's the NPG's job to do! While this phone is probably meant to compete with the iphone and other smartphones . . .
Oh and so far Verizon is only one that has release date for the Xperia Play, Sony did say that it made deal many carriers, they're just not saying who yet.

Compete with the 3DS? how can this compete? since when the 3DS makes call? This is a phone that can play game, not a portable consoles that makes call.

Why would it try to compete with the 3DS? It's a smartphone. The NGP has to compete with the 3DS.
But anyway this looks like it is going to be a great smarphone well, it actually doesn't LOOK that appealing but the software does.

I'm interested in getting on, shame it's only available for Verizon (hopefully within a few months it'll move ot other networks)
