Mirror's Edge 2 has been canceled, according to a report on Swedish site Press 2 Play TV.
The translated news:
"Patrick [Soderlund - EA driving and shooting game boss] acknowledges that Mirror's Edge didn't match up to their expectations regarding sales, and that has stopped the sequel that has been in development," declared the report, published originally in December. "EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped - involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror's Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity."
According to EA's prez John Ritccitello back in December 2009, first-person running game Mirror's Edge "deserved" a sequel, although, if this report is to believed, it's not going to happen.

Good. The first one wasn't even remotely fun, let alone any good. And yes, I played through this entire piece of crap.

THANK GOD! Someone at EA finally woke up and said WHY ARE WE MAKING THIS CRAP. This had to one of the dumbest games ever made. I was so shocked to hear they were making a part 2.
THANK YOU to someone with a brain!

That's a shame. Mirror's Edge was one of the few games that could really learn from it's mistakes and make a really great game. Really, the only PROBLEM with the first one was how short the game was. Played it enough times to know where everything was and ran through it in 6 hours, start to finish no joke. But it REALLY could've improved with extra features. Online could've worked, I think. Live race? Cops/robbers, 2 player or team co-op. Had really great potential, and a chance to up the replay-ability so it didn't end up for 15$ in the bargain bin. That's dumb on EA's part, sticking with the set cash cows. I'm gonna go spiral into a mini depression over the loss of a great game. ;_;

did any1 actually read the statement? they referred to the guy as "EA driving and shooting game boss" thats not even a position. then they use words like "askance"? I call bull on this right now. I mean I diddnt even particularly like the first one but that statement reads as bull to me

I am sure those "involved parties at DICE" are now working full-time on Battlefield 3.

Damn it!!! I was really hoping for a sequel. I really thought EA was going to take a chance. I guess money does talk to publishers. That's why we are getting COD 7 (I know it isn't EA) and not Mirror's Edge 2. What a shame.

This is a very sad thing. I was very anxious for the next one because I honestly loved the first one. It brought something new to the table and I believed this series had so much potential. I wish that they would change their mind about their decision if this is true.

This is disappointing. I trade in my games all the time, the only game I will never trade in is Mirror's Edge. When I first played it, I knew it was most likely a one-off because of it's uniqueness. Guess it's time for developers to make more 'splodey games. Sad.

While I did not play Mirror's Edge I heard nothing but good thins about it... It seems that EA and Activision are only keeping the Cash Cow franchises, EA in way of Call of Duty, despite that the games will suck and Madden football. I think it's time to stick to the smaller companies or the Japanese... hate to say it but the home teams are only thinking of $$$ rather than the customer.

There's always hope. Look at the case of Beyond Good & Evil, all we need, is the one thing we have a love/hate relationship with, time.

this is bull...i was really looking forward to this game...2 player co-op racing would of been awesome. maybe EA is going to wait for next gen, when they run out of new ideas? who knows...

So kill the one truly original console action game you had in development in order to.....what, exactly? Make more Medal of Honor games? More Madden games? Sigh...

Man that sucks! I love Mirror's Edge because it was so different and fun. Sure it has it's faults but sequels fix those problems. I bought the game after playing it at a mate's place and bought it the next payday and I think that if more people actual got to play it, it would make more sales. Seeing gameplay or watching a review on Mirror's Edge just doesn't help make the decision as good as actually playing the game yourself. I mean it's at bargin bin price now so I don't see a reason not to play it.

It's really bad to see a company lose faith in a game. EA is known to really spam those sports games and having Mirror's Edge come out was a strange but beautifal site.
I suppose we cannot do anything about it but hope that what ever they were working on is worth this cancelation because I don't believe the BS that "It didn't match expectations.". I wonder how high expectations are on EA Sport games?
elpepe234
ea and activision are acting like retards only milking the big franchises and not giving new ones a chance
GamebustaZX
wow alot of games have been getting canceled lately and they need to learn just because the first game dont sell well dont just give up on the whole series just make the next one better and Mirrors edge was not even a bad game its just that alot of people over looked it
theLgnd009
BS. The release tends to make the game and mirrors edge released when hardly anyone had a ps3. What did they expect? Mirrors edge 2 would be on par with infamous if released now, or at least a heavy rain.
BKirckof
Maybe if the game had lasted longer than 6 hours mire people would have bought it.

Well this is unfortunate. I really like the first Mirror's Edge, it was incredibly challenging and me and many of my friends competed on the leader boards for weeks doing Time Trials. It was likely one of the most competitive games I've ever played that didn't actually feature a multiplayer. I've been waiting for some news on the the second game ever since EA hinted they were working on a sequel. But I guess now it's gone, I think I'll go play Mirror's Edge again seeing as there will never be a sequel.
