Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure, the next game in the Spyro series, has been announced by Activision and developer Toys for Bob. The story for the game is being written by writers from the original Toy Story movie, Alek Sokolow and Joel Cohen. "It's got a whole universe of characters and an incredible backstory and a number of different ways to interact with it." There will be over 30 toys people can buy in real life to be transferred into the game via a "portal." An action-figure starter pack is expected to retail for $70. The game promises to be a "breakthrough for the toy and video game industry." Players will be able to transfer their "real-world toys" through the game's "Portal of Power." Obviously Activision is excited about the cross-promotion between games and toys "opening up new possibilities and revenue streams for both industries." Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure is expected to launch this fall for the consoles, handhelds and PC.
From the sounds of it, this Spyro game is targeting an even younger audience than its PlayStation predecessors. The press release gave very few details about the game and instead focused on how much I'm going to enjoy buying accessories to play the game with. Do you think this will be the dawn of a new way to play games with "inter-action figures" or another attempt to make money at the expense of an established franchise?

Keep Spyro a PLATFORMER! I don't care what money grabbing scheme they have to make you buy action figures or whatever the heck they are doing, I will completely ignore that anyway and just play the game. That is, IF it is a PLATFORMER. Not a stupid action game. Spyro is a platformer, do you hear me Activision??

why is it that activision has to make 1000000000 spinoffs of everygame they make and publish, god you put gh to death which is good cuz it sucked after 2, i think its time to put spyro down he has had a good long life, but he is not what he was back in the day

it's like Activision is a sweat shop forcing Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk to do all the heavy lifting but when they collapsed, Spider-Man and Spyro looked at themselves and went "uh-oh..."

This seriously make me want to cry I loved Spyro so much when I was 8 but what ever this wanta be how to train your dragon look a like thing is it's Spyro. Why couldn't activision dropped Spyro instead of GH that way insomniac or SCEA could buy it back.

This is an interesting concept, but at a 70$ price point for just the starter kick, I don't think this is going to be a good idea for Activision.

He looks like a Pokemon lizard thing! Oh well, Spyro died once Insomniac stopped making the games. Whats funny is the graphics in those screen shots are barely better then Spryo 1's PS1 graphics.

if you guys can't tell it's they're reinventing spyro you're dumb. he's a dragon and now he looks more like a chinese dragon, which is awesome. i would never buy this game or anything to go with it, maybe that cool lookin shark dude, but that's about it. congrats to the developers for trying a pretty cool marketing technique that'll probably fail because of over pricing. this stuff still looks cool though.

always love spyro. hopefully itll be good. havnt played one in idk how long tho 0.o and i agree with nightwolf. he does look more like a demon dragon that the orginal spyro. still, might get this :D

He doesn't even look like the traditional Spyro anymore. More like a demon monster version. and it's supposed to be targeted to younger audiences? I fail to see their logic.
