The 2011 Into the Pixel exhibit features twenty works of video game art, selected by a panel of jurors from a field of submissions gleaned from artists around the world. The exhibition offers an opportunity for published video and computer game artists to be reviewed and recognized by the public and by their peers in both the fine art and video game worlds.
We're highlighting the artists taking part in this year’s Into the Pixel exhibit leading up to the end of the DICE conference on February 11. Read on to find out about artist Kekai Kotaki and his Guild Wars 2 artwork entitled, "Kodan Attack." (Click artwork image for a high-resolution version.)
Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kekai has always had a passion for art. Finding the sunshine and beautiful scenery distracting he moved to dreary Seattle in 2000 to attend art school. After graduating he proceeded to attempt a career at doing art. This meant getting a job at ArenaNet, the makers of the Guild Wars franchise as a lowly texture artist. Through hard work and more than a little luck he was able to become a concept artist. Kekai can still be found in Seattle at ArenaNet. He is working hard as Lead Concept Artist on Guild Wars 2 and on a burgeoning illustration career.
Now in its seventh year, Into the Pixel is the one annual opportunity for video and computer game artists to have their work critically reviewed by experts in both the digital and fine art worlds. The 2011 Into the Pixel Exhibition will premiere in June at E3 in Los Angeles.
