The 2011 Into the Pixel exhibit features twenty works of video game art, selected by a panel of jurors from a field of submissions gleaned from artists around the world. The exhibition offers an opportunity for published video and computer game artists to be reviewed and recognized by the public and by their peers in both the fine art and video game worlds.
We'll be highlighting the artists taking part in this year’s Into the Pixel exhibit over the next two weeks leading up to the end of the DICE conference on February 11. Read on to find out about artist Aaron Limonick and his Transformers: War for Cybertron artwork entitled, "Cybertron." (Click artwork image for a high-resolution version.)
Aaron Limonick was born and raised in Los Angeles, California in the early 1980’s. The son of a studio musician in the film industry and a custom jewelry designer, the arts within the entertainment industry were always familiar. Whether in a soundstage with his dad in front of a live orchestra, or in a design studio in Hollywood with his mom, Aaron’s childhood was filled with many inspired people and environments. After attending a Disney funded scholarship program at USC, Aaron’s goal: to become an artist, was solidified. Over the coming years this lead to many forms of expression, such as landscape painting, abstract art, and especially graffiti. After high school, Aaron attended Art Center College of Design and found that entertainment was the ultimate venue for design and collaboration to merge. Here, the competitive nature of countless successful artists was both inspiring and highly intimidating. In 2004, his first job in video games became available through a fellow graffiti art collaborator who was also a concept artist. Since graduation in 2005, Aaron has worked in the video game industry on a number of titles. These include the Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero franchises, GUN, Drawn: The Painted Tower, The Bourne Conspiracy, and Transformers: War for Cybertron, among others. Currently, he is at High Moon Studios, carrying the torch of the Transformers universe.
Now in its seventh year, Into the Pixel is the one annual opportunity for video and computer game artists to have their work critically reviewed by experts in both the digital and fine art worlds. The 2011 Into the Pixel Exhibition will premiere in June at E3 in Los Angeles.
