The next Call of Juarez games, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, has been announced. Ubisoft says it's developing the game with Techland for next-gen consoles and Windows PC, Call of Juarez: The Cartel will be available worldwide Summer 2011.
For fans of the series (of which I am a huge one), the idea behind it is a bit puzzling: The game will bring the Wild West to a "new and moden setting," modern day Juarez and Los Angeles. Interesting, no?
“Call of Juarez: The Cartel is an action-packed shooter game with a strong story, interesting characters and a wide variety of gameplay options,” said Adam Novickas, director of marketing at Ubisoft. “The game will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot.”
So, what do you think? Are you into this title?

F'ing Stupid game doesn't deserve all this publicity. I look for new screens every day, and all I find is a new spew of crap about the controversy of a game depicting real border violence in Mexico. This is the biggest scandal in video game history. And for what? Keep the digital whirlpool spinning, spinning? That does look like Halle Berry. The guy looks like a gayer, older version of Chad Kroeger in the screens. They're not even gonna try. Why does a humble Western franchise turn for a slice of modern warfare coincidently set in Ciudad Jurez? They planned for this! F Call of JUDY (the name of my fata$$ ugly aunt), and all its iterations. Guys, all we have to look forward to this year is Nidhogg. Look it up. It's an Indie sword fighting game in development and it looks flippin' sweet for itself.

It's being banned in Mexico! Now I want to play it!

I love this series, but don't like the idea of jumping into the modern era. Everything seems to want to be in the modern era. Gee what an original concept. I would rather them take this chronologically and if they want to move towards the modern ear, how about easing into the turn of the century and into the beginning of the 20th century, not the present era?

Well considering the first Call of Juarez was terrible I think I'll pass. Old west game are not meant to be made into fps. Even if this is being set in modern day I still see this as a game that will come and go without most people realizing it was ever made. Just my opinion though...

Not going to judge until I see more.

when they say next-gen tech, i wonder if they will be able to compete with crisis, rage or brink, becuz that seems like the new direction with all this.
PoppaPumpy
anyone notice the next gen console thing?
firefist
What? That sounds silly. Next thing you know they'll be making a cowboys vs. aliens movie. Oh wait....
TopDog811
this is the stupidest damn idea ever

I hope the game inspires the people to become vigilantes and fight the cartels on their own. Kinda like a Mexican Deathwish
GHETOyeti
expected. the cartel fighting in juarez last year is now becoming a game. every time i heard about the fighting i thought of "call of juarez". now they're making a game about spring break.Huh
StarWars_Enigma
The girl in the pic looks like Halle Berry lol and i dont know why it says the "Next-gen consoles" when its being released on the current generation...did Ubi say that or was that you, Stevie?

Sounds great. It's a very interesting setting for a video game.
I wonder if you could do side missions as a "coyote" to earn extra money.

It's good to hear that I am not the only big fan of the Call of Juarez games. Especially the last one, which completely blew me away with a fantastic story and great characters. I can understand why they would want to take it to current times, instead of keeping it in the past, but I just hope they keep what made the last game so great.
It wasn't just the gunplay, which felt great, but it was the way the characters played off of eachother. It was the way morality always came into question, and you never knew what they were going to do next. It was the AAA voice talent, the wonderfully realized world and the great atmosphere. It had so much going for it, but nobody played it.
I hope that changes, this series deserves to be recognized.
