The 2011 Into the Pixel exhibit features twenty works of video game art, selected by a panel of jurors from a field of submissions gleaned from artists around the world. The exhibition offers an opportunity for published video and computer game artists to be reviewed and recognized by the public and by their peers in both the fine art and video game worlds.
We'll be highlighting the artists taking part in this year’s Into the Pixel exhibit over the next two weeks leading up to the end of the DICE conference on February 11. Read on to find out about artist Mikko Kinnunen and his Mass Effect 2 artwork entitled, "Citadel." (Click artwork image for a high-resolution version.)
Mikko Kinnunen got into computer graphics in the mid 90's while participating in the Scandinavian 'demo scene’ which at the time served as a talent pool for many local game development studios. What started out as a hobby become his full-time career in 2003. Since then he has contributed concept art to several projects, including the recent PS3 hit InFamous, and Blur Studio's Heavy Metal film project. Most recently he finished work on BioWare's Mass Effect 2 and is currently busy working on future installments of the franchise. He is living in Edmonton, Canada with his wife Jaana and their two dogs.
Now in its seventh year, Into the Pixel is the one annual opportunity for video and computer game artists to have their work critically reviewed by experts in both the digital and fine art worlds. The 2011 Into the Pixel Exhibition will premiere in June at E3 in Los Angeles.
