MLG Pro Circuit Details

Today Major League Gaming rolled out the first details for this year’s 2011 MLG Pro Circuit. MLG is America’s primary professional video game league, and this year the game’s they’re focusing on are Halo: Reach for the Xbox 360, StarCraft 2 for PC, and Call of Duty: Black Ops for Playstation 3. Over 1 million dollars in prizes are up for grabs this year over the course of six tournaments, starting in April. Read on to see how they’re divvying up the prize money, and the other changes heading for the event.

The regular season, which will consist of five events, will reward players all the way up to eighth place. Halo: Reach competitors can win up to $20,000 for a first place victory per event, while StarCraft 2 players can win up to $5,000. At the National Championship towards the end of the year, Reach players will be competing for the $100,000 grand prize, while the StarCraft 2 players will be after the hefty $50,000 grand prize. The prize pools for Black Ops aren’t available yet.

The first MLG event of 2011 will take place April 1-3 in Dallas, TX. While the following event will be held in Columbus, OH on June 3-5. Online registration for the events will begin on Tuesday, March 1st at 7pm EST. The Halo: Reach tournament will allow up to 208 teams, while StarCraft 2 will feature up to 272 players. Again, Call of Duty: Black Ops details are not yet available.

MLG also announced that they’re completely changing the venues this time around. So instead of small, crowded, rooms with attendees staring at one giant screen, they’re erecting three huge main stages for each event, which will hopefully make for a better spectator experience. They're also planning on improving the online stream for those unable to travel to the live events.

I only find Starcraft interesting as an E-sport. I find FPSs to jarring to be entertaining. That being said, I did enjoy a few Halo matches I've seen.

Boy do I long for a competitive FPS like Halo 1. Those gameplays were ridic to watch just how much skill separated people. Ogres/Zyos/Killer N were heads above everybody... and 1v1s with Zyos/Darkside/Purple were just insane to watch how much strategy there was. Now we have a watered down Halo Reach :'(

I still don't get the MLG thing, who the hell gets excited over watching other people play video games. I love me some games but I'm not stoked to watch other people play them

I still think if you're not MLG or something similar you're not a "hardcore" gamer.

Halo has been MLG's flagship title since 2002. Essentially MLG is a Halo league. They got where they are today running Halo tournaments for Halo players and fans. If you don't like it nobody is forcing you to be involved... But there's no denying Halo's presence as a premier competitive console FPS.

What a terrible selection of games. Couldn't they have chosen something that isn't bargain bin material?

Ok so maybe I'd allow Starcraft because there aren't a ton of RTS's. But Halo and CoD? They couldn't go any lower. Shame on them and anyone who bought that crap.

As a Starcraft fan that wants to see more e-sports get bigger this is nothing but a good thing. So when this events come up if your interested in any game that is being played take the time to watch and also tell your friends about it, the more popularity it gets the bigger these events will get in the future.

Cheers to MLG to putting on the tournys for everyone to see!

Cool, I have Reach for 360 and Black Ops for PS3. I'm happy they include PS3 with such a game like Black Ops.
