Dungeon Siege 3

Dungeon Siege 3's release date is official: May 31, 2011. Square Enix and Obsidian's action RPG is set tp come out on the 360, PlayStation 3 as well as the series' ancestral home, the PC -- this is the first Dungeon Siege game that's playable on consoles.

This DS will feature four-player co-op action that "allows players to seamlessly drop in and out of battle without interrupting the action or impacting the campaign." Sounds good to me and my three friends!

"Dungeon Siege has returned and it’s better than ever. We [Square Enix] have partnered with Obsidian to bring this critically acclaimed classic franchise back in an all new, re-imagined form,” said Ami Blaire, vice president of marketing at Square Enix, Inc in a statement.

You can pre-order the game today, which presents consumers with a dilemma. Which pre-order bonus do you like best? Here are your choices:

GameStop

Receive two exclusive in-game items by preordering at GameStop

  • Burning Band of Scorch: This exclusive preorder in-game ring increases the raw damage of a player’s attacks and sets all foes ablaze with any weapon.

  • Talisman of the Grand Mage: This exclusive preorder in-game necklace reduces incoming damage on the player and grants the ability to lash out with a mystical attack that injures enemies in close-range combat.

Steam

Relive the classic Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege 2 games as a gift with purchase through Steam.

Amazon.com

Receive a limited preorder exclusive in-game ring

  • Bite of the Arakun: Grants the player the ability to poison enemies with lingering injury or soften their defenses, leaving them vulnerable for follow-up attacks.

Best Buy

Another exclusive preorder in-game amulet

  • Sacred Heart of the Legion: Increases a player’s health and pushes close combat assailants back each time the bearer is struck in battle.

Walmart

  • Mini-comic and strategy guide: Pick up the Dungeon Siege mini-comic from Dark Horse Comics and a free mini-strategy guide from Prima Games with a preorder at Walmart.

Does anyone else think the whole pre-order exclusive thing is getting out of hand? I mean, how should I know which of these I want without having played the game? I'm going to stay safe and choose Steam's offer. I know those games are amazing.

There is one thing about this, that really pisses me off. If you look at the UK release of this game, there is a limited edition version of Dungeon Siege III for the PS3, 360, and PC, in which you get all 4 of our so-called exclusive in-game items. Sometimes Europe gets all the good stuff; Mass Effect Collector's Edition, the Witcher Collector's Edition, not to mention a whole bunch of Blu-ray releases that have way more special features than here in the states...... Thanks Corporations!

Guess it was pushed back, because this was supposed to come out the end of March, not May. I clearly remember seeing it listed as March 21st. I just looked right now, yep, still listed at Gamestop as March 21st release. Oh well, a part of me was hoping it would get pushed, because I'm looking forward to Torchlight on XBL. Would hate to have both around the same time.

This is actually good news, there were too many releases coming out all in march, and now the date has changed from march to may for this title, gives me time to prepare lol.

Honestly the only bonuses that seem worth it are wal-mart's and steam's. I don't understand the appeal in offering lowbie items that break the game's difficulty curve and also usually get replaced pretty quick.

@Wozman23 Local co-op would be a major plus, something like what Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance did on the PS2 would be awesome, we used to have to much fun playing that game!

But I doubt such features are even considered anymore, damn you internet! :P

I hope its local co-op. Local co-op dungeon crawlers have been severely lacking this gen, so I'll take anything I can get at this point.

And yes, preorder bonuses are getting out of hand! I wish every retailer just got the same bonuses. That way you didn't have to go out of your way to preorder at a certain retailer.
