THQ Reveals New Company Logo

THQ posted a $14.9 million loss for the three months ended December 31, 2010, the publisher announced today in its Q3 2011 financial report to investors.

While THQ exceeded its projections for the quarter, net sales fell by $33.9 million to $323.1 million, versus $357 million for the previous year, despite the breakout success of the peripheral-based uDraw GameTablet.

"We posted a strong holiday quarter led by our new uDraw GameTablet, which shipped 1.2 million units. This owned intellectual property provides THQ with a new growth opportunity focused on innovative and creative game play," THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell said today in a statement. "Our fiscal fourth quarter continues our robust release schedule of high quality, high profile games including Homefront, WWE All Stars, and de Blob 2."

THQ continued to push its commitment to established franchises looking ahead to fiscal 2012 (starting April 1, 2011), which will include the “strongest core games line-up” in the publisher’s history thanks to titles such as Red Faction: Armageddon, Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine, and MX vs. ATV Alive.

It was also announced that the next installment in Volition’s Saints Row series is slated for release in fall 2011. No details about the game were revealed, and all Farrell was willing to say was, “Hang in there. You’re going to love it.”

Given that THQ only released a few high profile titles, chief among them WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011, Costume Quest, and MX vs. ATV Reflex, and the slow down in the family gaming sector, where THQ is firmly entrenched, it's not surprising sales were down. But looking ahead, THQ has one of the most exciting game slates around, starting with the newly delayed Homefront and de Blob 2 on through to Darksiders 2 next year and inSane and Devil's Third beyond that.
