EA Teases Unannounced Shooter Coming In 2011

Posted February 1, 2011 - By Jake Gaskill

Electronic ArtsElectronic Arts has plans to release a “very exciting” and still unannounced first-person shooter by the end of 2011, CEO John Riccitiello teased during the publisher’s Q3 2011 financial report.

Riccitiello dodged questions regarding the possibility of yearly entries in the newly revamped Medal of Honor series, and instead countered by saying that it is EA’s intention to “have strong FPS entries each year” in an effort to “take back the first-person shooter category." Having Respawn Entertainment, and the Call of Duty creators therein, up its sleeve should certainly help EA in this regard.

As for what the unannounced shooter might be, it’s really anyone’s guess. I would be ecstatic to be caught totally by surprise by Mirror’s Edge 2, but EA revealed a few weeks back that it will finally officially announce Battlefield 3 at GDC 2011, so that's the leading contender at this point. Medal of Honor developer Danger Close is currently hiring for a new shooter, and Insomniac Games has a multiplatform game in the pipeline too (and Valve is still sitting on Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or whatever it ends up being!), so who really knows.

What do you think this mystery FPS could be?
