Last week the G4 staff banded together to talk about our feelings. Well, not so much our feelings as much as the moments in games that made us scared. Everyone has their personal fears, some people don't like silence in games, while some don't like video game bears. Personally, I don't like quiet rooms with faint voices in the distance like in BioShock, nor do I like timed missions. I can't handle the pressure I guess. What was your scariest video game moment?

The first legit gaming moment that actually made me jump out of my seat would be in the first Bioshock, when you're in the corner of a room and the screen suddenly fogs over and you can't do or see anything for a short while. When you're back in control, you turn around and some dentist freak is staring at you...until he starts attacking you. And people told me dentists are nothing to be afraid of...
Completely agree with you there ahong, also the department store in condemned. Seeing all those maniquins, not knowing which are actual people or not scared the crap out of me, my heart was racing the entire time.

For me no game got my heart racing more than Demons Souls for the PS3. When you had thousands of souls and went into a new area. You could get caught off guard by an enemy that could kill you in seconds. You would than have to start all over again and if you didn't get back loose all the souls you collected. Souls being the only way to advance your chartacter was brutal.

And fallout 3 feral ghouls freak me out

Playing gears of war horde mode scares me silly. Also boss fights in metal gear solid.

BioShock was generally creep with all of the insane voices, spider splicers coming out of nowhere, etc.
Another game that made me jump the first time was Left 4 Dead with my first encounter with the glorious hunters. Your first time playing, you hear a yell in the distance, then there's some guy pouncing at you and mauling you.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent: I played that game for 10 minutes before I had to turn it off.

I'll admit that I'm a wuss when it comes to scary games but not so much with movies, I think it the feeling of actually being in the situation. Anyway, I've been scared or at least got a little jumpy from, Dead Rising, Alan Wake, Bioshock, Resident Evil 2, Fallout 3 and so on so forth.
My absolute scariest gaming moment was from Fallout 3. I was roaming the subways looking for loot and killing ghouls. I thought I had killed every ghoul in the area since I hadn't seen one in a good 20+ minutes. I start hearing some footsteps, I think to myself "must be my own footsteps but I just wasn't listening before", only to turn around to a Ghoul Reaper leaping growling and swatting at me. He was so close, so loud and completely out of nowhere I literally yelled, dropped my controller and jumped to my feet. My wife runs down the stairs and asks what is going on, I told her the story and got laughed at for a good 5 minutes.

Clive Barker's "Undying" for PC had some good scares in it
But for a truly terrifying experience "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth." It was truly creepy and the atmosphere made you FEEL like you were the main character and it was happeneing to you.. Of course what do you expect of a game with a warning disclaimer at the load screen.

The scariest, I'll discount the ones that scared me when I was younger, like the re-deads, I'm totally over those fears. That part in Alan Wake when you are walking to the Elderwood visitor center, and (spoiler) a crow jumps out of a garbage can. And then the last episode going for the no gun achievement: Self-limiting gives me nightmares.

Saw was a really scary game
The Monkey King
I don't get "scared" per se. I've seen enough messed up stuff to become used to zombies and morphing carcases and what not. It's surprises that get me. I'm jumpy.

I don't get scared very easily by games - a few have made me jump a little, but that's not a real scare for me, it's just kinda startling. FEAR and Doom 3 were particularly good for jumps, for me, but they weren't very SCARY while I was playing them.
Alternatively, Silent Hill games are great for a really unsettling environment, definitely creepy. They make me feel uncomfortable to move around, but, again, they're not very scary to me, they just screw with your head. Bioshock too has the really creeptastic environment. Bioshock was probably the game closest to scaring me before my scariest game, because it had unsettling environments AND jump scares. Also it's my favorite game so I'm biased.
BUT MY SCARIEST GAME is probably Fatal Frame 2, and I have no clue what it is about it that makes it so overall terrifying to me. Maybe it's because you're a little schoolgirl with only a camera to fight these ghosts, and your run speed isn't anything to write home about. It makes you nervous because your character is vulnerable, and that's kind of scary in and of itself.
Plus the GHOSTS are scary; I had a few horror moments picturing broken neck bitch coming at me through my walls, idefk.
Anyway. tl;dr FF2 is probably the scariest game I've played or LPed.

Some people can't use the reply button. I have tried countless times but it will never post.

The department store from the first game and the Grizzly Bear in Condemned 2 get me every time.

I always bring up Condemned when we're discussing scary games here and today will be no exception.
"Well JDarkley, what of Condemned?" you may ask.
"The department store," I respond.
"Oh," you mutter with understanding and restrained terror, and you retreat to a happier place and try to forget.

One of my scariest game moments would have to be the first time i played L4D when i turned down a corner on no mercy and i got pounced by i hunter that i never saw coming for me

I'm not a big fan of 'scary" stuff in games, like the sudden occurence that makes you jump, but I really enjoy it when a game builds a creepy atmosphere. In Bioshock, I remember so many times where I'd be standing at a doorway, and hear the crazy ramblings of the splicers inside and thinking "I really don't want to go in there."
Tim_1138
I got a little nervous when I found side locations in Fallout 3, because I wasn't sure if I was progressed enough to be there yet. Usually, I wasn't. And I died.
