Sony is referring to the new user-interface for the NGP as LiveArea which will support the PlayStation Store, Trophies, friends, web browers, messaging and serve as a launching pad for other applications. The "Near" program will use the internal GPS to track your location and movement to provide information on what gamers are playing in your area.

I'm surprised Sony is deciding not to attempt 3D. But, that's good on them, because that means they are really making an attempt to give the 3DS some competition. However, I still probably won't get it. PS3 will be good enough for me.

    1. Screw the 3DS, dual analog sticks and OLED is way better than Mario smacking me in the face... again.
    2. I hope gamestop does a trade up offer for us poor PSPgo owners who still threw $250 at Sony.
    3. Call of Duty was also announced on the playstation blog.

a PSP with dual Sticks and trophies with LBP and Uncharted. sounds like it might not be that bad.

The Web browser needs to be massively improved though and it should take more from the iphone and stuff and have apps of all sorts.

And I'd also like it to have some sort of multiplayer has a handheld had that yet? i wouldn't know.

People keep telling "Oh it's going to be 800 bucks, no way Sony learned from their mistakes" Hopefully Sony Proves them wrong. 250 -300 for this, maybe more. Not too much I'm hoping for 250 price tag so it can go head to head with the 3DS.

The device itself is in theory exactly what I want; fairly powerful with 2 analog sticks. However, we still don't have some important details such as price, launch date or what games will be available when it launches. We also don't know what kind of memory and optical storage it will use, Pro Duo and UMD or new ones and if they opt for new ones will they launch new proprietary formats or adopt common ones.

It will like still accept Pro Duo but it will be a double edged sword if it still uses UMDs. On the one hand, we could play our UMD collections on it on the other I hate UMDs. I'm kind of hoping they just sell games on cheap SD flash memory and because of the way flash memory works the system just loads the game into system memory to run to get us away from overpriced formats.

I wouldn't mind buying digital copies but they'd have to pass the savings of not having to package and ship product on to us to make it worth it otherwise we might as well stick to physical media. Digital distribution isn't worth it to consumers if Sony or whomever are simply trying to cut costs at their end to increase profit, there has to be a built-in incentive to make consumers opt in. Steam does it with weekend deals and various holiday specials.

Overall I feel very positive about the official announcement, we just need to wait to see how the details shake out over the year.

I'm not sold. Everything looks great and all but it really depends on the games. Sure Uncharted, Killzone and an LBP game that's always connected to the internet would be great, however they require more time then a commute to work or school.

Dunno how i feel about the control placement, guess time will tell. Also D-pad looks like it was drawn on there by a 5th grader who can't keep in the lines lol...

Looks good. Day 1 buy for me. Impressive specs. My only hope is the battery life holds up.

Wow! I haven't had a handheld since the original GameBoy Advanced, but Sony just blew my mind with this announcement. Now that we have the actual specs of the PSP2... er NGP..., not to mention the catalog of games coming over (Uncharted anyone?), I'm pretty excited for another handheld. Sorry Nintendo, you're 3DS sounds amazing, but Sony just guaranteed themselves money from me.

I'm really digging this device but I can't fathom how much this thing is going to cost. With the 3DS being 250 buck, I can't imagine this being any less. I was going to get the 3DS, but I'll wait until they announce a price for me to make my final decision
